Does anyone know what’s the cause of this? Thinking it maybe weather. It was raining and snowing and then it became freezing dry. Can this be the cause of this?
Can you please provide better photos? Better lighting and from multiple angles, and from a larger distance from the vehicle? Has the bumper been impacted, even slightly? Has the bumper been repainted?
Here are some better pictures. To my knowledge the car has never been repainted, there’s no accident on the carfax. One of my body shops friends ran his finger through the rear paper and side panel and told me he’s 99% sure the bumper hasn’t been repainted because the paint is consistent with the other panels. There are no other damages on my bumper other than that.
your bumper buddy may give a hint. someone may have just "kissed" the location.
i always try to park way away form others. even then, i had someone simultaneously dent a side door and also put a gouge in the rocker panel of a Volvo GL ('84). the dent was easy to figure out but not sure what was low enough to do the rocker panel.
There’s no other damage on any other part of my bumper except that. Can that be possible that it got hit it only one spot? Also when I noticed the damage my car was the 1st car on the corner of the block.
It looks like mechanical damage, and it looks like it has been there for a while.
It could have been another vehicle that tapped yours, and the vehicle doing the tapping was higher than yours, or had a protrusion such as a bumper bar, tow hitch, anything.
Here is a better picture of when I first discovered the damage and how it is now. When I started cleaning my car, more paint fell off. If it is mechanical would I need to repaint my whole bumper to fix it?
What is the history of this vehicle? How long have you owned it, and are you the first owner? Something doesn’t seem right, as if the bumper was repainted and the repair paint is failing. A complete history of the vehicle would help in diagnosis.
I have owned it for a couple of months. I am the 2nd owner and the 1st owner leased it. There were no accidents on the carfax but I’m guessing it was repainted also. My main concern whether it is a defect with Mercedes paint and the weather caused it to crack. It was below freezing accompanied with snow and rain when I first noticed this.
I also just noticed this near both of the rear wheel wells. Wondering if this is normal or if this is another indication that it was repainted.
What are you showing in the rear wheel well photo? It isn’t clear. More questions raised in that part of the vehicle suggests repair work was done, possibly due to a rear collision or fender bender.
