collision plus avoidance system
My 2016 GLE 250D keeps popping up the red warning symbol and beep that tells me a frontal crash is imminent......except that there is nothing in front of me !
Dealer says it is radar based in the front bumper and claim to have done a software update as, last week it said malfunction of the system in the central display between speedo and rev counter
Google suggests it is camera based at the top of the windscreen....
which is correct....and why is it happening
the front bumper is clean and has never been hit

unfortunately, it's likely best to get dealer to calibrate all your accident avoidance systems... it's actually quite a bit of effort to get all thr systems functioning correctly

Thanks...the car IS booked in.....but I'd still like confirmation of the type of sensor fitted to my particular car

I've gotten the red triangles warning before, but on my mirrors. Scared the crap out of me, but just restarted the car, and haven't had an issue since. I think the system runs checks right when you start the vehicle, and if something is off, then it'll throw that error. Let us know what the dealer comes back with after the re-calibration though!

It happens to me on my 2016 GLE350 4Matic at least once a week, red triangle and beeping , as I’m driving and nothing in front of me. It’s just too insane for this to happen. I hope to God, it’s not going to slam on the brakes, while doing 60mph.

well they checked it all through and found no faults, allegedly did a software update too but they said that first time around!.... they DO seem to be a good dealership but the "we performed a software update" excuse for pretty much every single thing is starting to wear a little thin now

Performing a “software update “ pacifies the clients but in reality nothing is being fixed. This collision warning ⚠️ System malfunctions, beeps and flashes and no vehicle is Front of me , or in proximity. Talk about safety and reliability- I can’t trust it.

I have found that mine will also throw an occasional proximity warning, but I think i know why.
When driving on certain roads with a slight curve, I have had a warning when the car senses a tree in the median. It is seeing the object and sending a warning. Every time I have had a warning signal, it is always a slightly bending road like this. I saw it again and again on the same road in the same place...So, the angles and proximity to the tree must be absolutely correct for a split second according to the computer...
