I've searched the forums but not come up with a definitive answer.....
On my 2016 GLE 250D I want to be able to access internet radio on the move, I can do so by using the phone and connecting it via bluetooth audio / media but obviously cant touch the phone whilst driving....and I dont!!!
I dont think I have the required package to be able to use the cars' own SIM card - and from what I can see it would cost around £200 a year which I am just not prepared to pay!
I cant see why I cannot tether the car to my mobile phones' hotspot so I can use my phones' data...it all seems to connect OK ..... it says configuration successful and connected but it just dont work
when I look at the status screens it says not connected
during the process my phone displays "MB-COMMAND" as a connected device but that then disappears.....it is passing a very small (25KB) of data presumably during the process .....so what is going wrong ?
I have also tried connecting via USB lead but it still says offline

There are different ways COMAND can connect to the Internet, but as far as I can see from the 2016 owners manual, via a hotspot is not an option. Internet connection can be established through the MB communication module or via Bluetooth if the phone supports either the DUN or PAN profile. Later generations of COMAND can also use a phone's hotspot. I know NTG 5.5 can if the car is not already equipped with the HERMES communications module. Here in the USA at least we are accessing the MB online services via the MB communications module, which has its own eSIM.

I am assuming the car has it's own SIM card as I pay for online traffic updates but, as stated I am not prepared to shell out the exhorbitant subscription for online data access when I already have a mobile phone
I tried installing the bluDUN app but didnt get any further
also tried via ISB but it just says connected device (a 2017 Samsung Galaxy S7) is not compatible

You seem focused on using the vehicle as the internet communication device. Am I getting this right?
Can you establish a streaming connection with your phone, then plug your phone into the USB port and listen to the streaming feed via the “Media” selection in COMAND?
Are you trying to avoid using your phone’s data plan/quota while streaming?
Yes, I am trying to listen to internet radio via my phones mobile data plan
as far as I am aware I do not have a data plan for the car

...but would like to save the hassle of setting it all up every time (start player on phone, wait for it to load, select command bluetooth media player, start and wait whilst it buffers and connects etc.).....not to mention the pain of changing radio station which requires pulling over and changing it physically on the phone itself....obviously it would be far easier to set the phones as a wireless hotspot and simply use the internet radio function of the MB Command via the phones' mobile data / internet connection...I really cant see why that doesnt work.

The MB system doesn’t appear to offer the functionality you are seeking.
