GLC 350e mountain driving

Hi, I'm interested in a 2020 GLC350e but have this concern and question about mountain driving when the battery is depleted. We own a hybrid Chevy Volt and when driving in the mountains or any sustainable hill with battery depleted the engine goes into hyperdrive with high rpm's to charge the battery. This is because the engine is not connected directly to the drivetrain (transmission) but connected via the battery. The engine charges the battery which powers the car. This is extremely annoying at best. At worst you need to slow down to keep positive charge on battery. I was told by sales that this is not the case in GLC350e and the engine is connected directly to the drivetrain and not through the battery, is this correct? What are your experiences driving on a depleted battery in the mountains? Is their a reduction in power without the battery? Does the engine go into constant hyper rev? BTW I was told that the hybrid aspect is used primarily in the GLC350e for performance not necessarily for greater mpg. thanks for your help

This is the W166 forum. Your 2020 model isn't covered here, but I think BMWorld does have a forum for you.
