2016 GLE A5 Service including spark plugs

So my 2016 GLE 350 just creeped up on 50,000 miles and it was time for an A service. At 50,000 the maintenance guide also says spark plugs should be done. I researched and watched every video online that I could find on spark plugs changes for both the GLE 350 and M276 engine general. I even have the Mercedes WIS software that outlines the entire procedure. Everything I saw said you have to remove the intake manifold to get to the plugs/coils on the drivers side. The kit I bought from FCP Euro even came with intake manifold gaskets. I wanted to post to let you all know that you DO NOT have to pull the manifold, there IS enough room (barely) to get in there. You will need spark plug wire pliers though and it helps if you use a 1/4" drive E10 socket rather than a 3/8" drive.

Pulling the intake manifold doesn't look like it would be difficult but they glaze over 1 step that makes it seem easier than it is. The back 2 bolts holding the manifold on the GLE's are behind / underneath the bulkhead. You have to remove the bulkhead to get to them and that is a royal pain in the ***. It will take you longer to remove that bulkhead to get to those 2 bolts than it will to do everything else combined.

Good to know! I was going to do this job this weekend. Is this the spark plug pliars I need?

I used these, but they were total crap. They are all bent up and one of the tabs even broke but the shape was good though.

I'm going to order the CTA brand below to have on hand, in case there's a next time.

Agree that the intake manifold does not need to be removed.

This is well documented on this site and elsewhere.

Wow - I haven't heard of needing to change spark plugs on cars since the 60s-70s. Good to know....
