Owner Report - Impact of Diesel Recall on 2016 300d

I asked previously if anyone had any experience with their 300d after having the recall completed on their vehicle. Since no one provided useful/germane responses and I've not found any other 300d owners who've posted, I thought it appropriate to share my experience.

The work was performed with about 55140 miles on the vehicle. It took 2 business days during which I drove a 2021 GLE 350 loaner (which felt distressingly underpowered).

When I got my vehicle back I noticed right away that, from outside, the engine sound had little more clatter than it previously had (it was more of a purr before the recall work was done).

The transmission upshifts into 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th at higher speeds than it had previously, with the upshifts to 5th, 6th and 7th being delayed the longest. It is possible to effect an upshift earlier by letting off the footfeed briefly.

The fuel mileage has not changed - I'm still averaging about 26 in town and just over 30 on the highway.

I've noticed no other differences in the driveability. It's still peppy and performs well.

Thanks. I'd read through that (and the Diesel forum) before I even decided to get the mods done. There isn't much useful information there about the immediate impacts of the changes on the vehicle performance, and nothing at all germane to the 300d, which was my primary concern.

There is about 10 Sprinters Bluetecs for each Bluetec sedan or car sold in USA and Sprinters are often driven a lot, so when some owners had complication after AEM, where MB had to find a fix for software throwing "water in fuel" code, all long term reports come very positive.
Suppose the engines use more DEF after AEM, but that is hard to measure, so not really confirmed.
My GLE after AEM uses 1 gallon of DEF for each 65 gallons of fuel. Do not have the statistic before AEM.

Yes, I saw the data on the settlement website indicating that there were only about 1800 300d's in the US - a distinct minority of the GLE sales. Well, at least a few of us got it right :-)

I was getting about 2600 miles per gallon of DEF. I haven't started measuring the consumption with the AEM changes yet so I don't have any data for that. My driving habits have changed too - I was doing a lot more highway driving than I do now - which may affect the consumption.

Update: The additional clatter I heard from the outside was caused by the air inlet rattling against something else in the engine compartment. I fixed that and it now purrs as it did before the emissions mode. All of the other comments made are still in play though.
