Carplay/Android Auto on 2016 MY GLE 400 produced in 7/15
I'm a X164 owner thinking about picking up a GLE. Carplay/Android Auto compatibility is a must have. There are several 2016 GLE 400s for sale locally that were produced in 2015 so they did not come with CP/AA out of the box. After some searching, it appears that 2016 GLEs produced in 2015 can be updated if they have the 531 COMAND APS NTG5/NTG5.5 option on the VIN sheet via a "smartphone integration package (Code 14U)" installed by a dealer. However, several of them have a production date in July, and the flyer mentions a date of 8/15.
Any experience/success with July 2015 production date GLEs getting an update to AA/CP? If not, do the add-on boxes that claim to add CP/AA with limited details/documentation from ebay and the like work for those GLEs?
Thanks. Didn't end up getting the vehicle, but my local MB dealer thought it was possible and actually copied the document I posted since they had never updated one before.
