CarPlay for GLEs produced before January 8th, 2016?
I got my 2016 GLE in mid September and I'm wondering if there will be any option to update GLEs produced prior to the date that Mercedes-Benz starts rolling out CarPlay.
CarPlay is included standard with COMAND Navigation in 2016 CLS550 Coupe and CLS63 S Coupe models with December 1, 2015 production or later, and 2016 GLE400, GLE450 Coupe, GLE63 and GLE63 S models with January 8, 2016 production or later.

I'm with you on this one. I have a GLE coupe produced in October. I was always told it would have CarPlay. Generally, I am very unhappy with the whole buying experience. If CarPlay comes through for me, it would help my feelings a bit.

I ordered a GLE 300d that was supposed to be produced the end of December. It has a delay production date of January 11th so I guess it will have CarPlay. What will that feature do for me?
I just called MB customer care to ask about software updates/retrofitting CarPlay. I was very confidently told that there would be no retrofit. At this point, I am disappointed enough that this car may not stay in the garage very long. They did a lot of things right but there are enough highly irritating things to motivate me to pursue a rapid turnover.

I just picked up my 2016 GLE-350 on January 30th, if this truck does not get CarPlay eventually I will raise hell, all those stupid online Mercedes Apps that no one uses and no CarPlay? The hell with that! They don't need to retro fit anything, just push an update through and be done with it. Im also calling MB tomorrow to find out whats going on with this.
On top of everything else, the apps that mercedes does offer run like dog#@$# because the 3g service is so slow it makes it useless. I am REALLY unhappy with that portion of command.
My 2016 GLE300d came with CarPlay. I ordered the car in November. It arrived in Virginia around January 18, 2016, when I was out of the country so I did not pick it up until early February. The salesman connected an iphone to the car, and we saw the CarPlay icon on the car's display and tested it. I must have lucked out in that my car was built just after January 9 when this feature was to be added. There is nothing on the window sticker to indicate that it has CarPlay. I only know because we tested it.
Mine came with Apple Carplay. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. I would say the nicest thing about it is that when you receive a text it appears and you can click the pad and it will read the text, and allow you to respond by voice. And you can use Siri to do things; I've found in previous ML's of mine that the voice response for commands is basically useless so this is a nice change.

My car was produced on January 7th and it doesn't have carplay. But it does read my messages to me if I use the command controller. So I guess it doesn't matter if I have it or not.

i hear you have to have your phone plugged in to use it, i think that kinda sucks when everything is now wireless so i don't think u will be missing much. its coming with my build but don't think i will really use it. i like to leave my phone in my pocket and just have the phone connect via Bluetooth on my ML.
I'm starting to wonder if there is any one particular person at MB we can email, write to, or call collectively about a retrofit.
I'm speculating that this update is most likely a software one on a specific head-unit that probably hasn't changed between production dates. Probably the only reason MB wouldn't offer such a thing is because not enough owners are vocal about it and if that isn't the reason, we should at least know why.
