Good replacements for the lousy Cooper tires on my gle350
I am very frustrated by the poor tires MB put on these vehicles. I am about to take a trip and when I looked at the tires I noticed with only 18k miles about half the tread left and little chunks taken out of the rubber all along the tread of the tire. I have to say the tires run fine and handle well but last winter I noticed poor traction in snow compared to the ML which had Defender LTX tires. When I went to look for new tires, there isn't much of a selection in the 275/50-20 size that came on the car. Looking at the specifications, it looks like I can use a 285/50-20 Defender LTX tire without any issues since it is just a little bit larger. When I called Michelin they told me that there was no issue with fitment so I am leaning towards going that way rather then the primacy which only has 8/32" tread depth vs 10/32" on the defender. My only concern is the rim with. I have 8.5" rims and when they give you the specifications on the tire they say they use a 9" rim. They also use 8" rim for the 275/50-20 size tire so I am wondering if there is going to be an issue with mounting or handling.
Any comments or suggestions (including recommendations for other tires) would be appreciated.

I love my Goodyear Assurance Weatherready tires…they have been great in all weather conditions, quiet, long wearing, great traction.

2017 GLE350 4MATIC
I like Conti CrossContact LX25. Longer wearing and quieter than the OEM Conti CrossContact LX Sport.

I hate Cooper tires ever since they came on the market. I'm always a fan of Michelin's Pilot Sport. I been hunting down a set of the A/S 3 +. I'm running 265/45-20 with load index 108

I like the Nokian WR G4 SUV tires, Just put them on the Merc GLE 350, so no real snow experience yet but they handle well and are quiet. I'm on the second set on the RX-350. They are a different category, they are considered "All-Weather" tires....here is the link.....I like the car pic they use on their web page, lol:

I concur with the Michelin Pilot Sport. I specify them on all my new Mercedes. Good tread wear, quiet and don't "flat spot" should the car be used for extended period of time. Also, I have never had a defect/failure with Michelins.

I run Defender tires on my Volvo XC60 and they have been great for over 40K Miles... They are a bit stiffer but handling improved allot. Replaced Pirelli that came as OEM.
I have Cooper tires on my pick up truck and they have been great Tires. My GLE 43 has new pirelli scorpion tires (21") installed by dealer. So far they have not been bad, but when they wear out. Hope to upgrade to Michelin. I have sport pilots on my Aston Martin and are great tires but I they are summer ultra performance rated so they are definitely not for northern climates

After searching I see they have the Pilot Sport all season 4 in 265/40/ZR21. There ultra high performance all-season.
