DRL fuse

Aloha,

I've installed the illuminated star for our 2018 GLE 350. I have it powered in the fuse box from one of the 3 headlight fuses (7.5a) using a tap-a-fuse.

It works fine. It comes on when the headlight is activated.

I however would prefer it to come on when the DRLs are on.

I could tap off one of the wires going to either the left or right DRLs but I would rather source it from the fuse box.

I also prefer the DRL since it will illuminate the star when you use the car fob to unlock or lock the car. Using any accessory input won't.

I looked at the printed fuse map that comes with the vehicle. It doesn't identify a fuse location for the DRL. Did a google search also and didn't find anything.

If anyone knows of getting power from the DRL without splicing to the wire, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

use a relay to trigger the star from the DRL light.

Thanks Whitewagon. Are you suggesting to tie to one of the existing relays or a terminal for an open relay slot?

Thanks amusa. I've seen that thread and another using an open slot but they don't say it is for the DRL.

I guess I'll get a multimeter and check out suggestions above plus others in the fuse box to see if any of them are triggered by the lock/unlock on the keyfob.

BTW, the fuse map says locations 207 (20A), 211 (20A), 229 (5A), and 231 (5A) are for the headlights. I have mine currently tapped off fuse 229. The map says 5A for that slot but it actually has a 7.5A fuse.

add a simple relay and wire tie it under the hood near fuse box. Not where power for DRL comes from or what voltage it is. It's old school but works
