GLE Towing capacity
Confident steering, braking and acceleration while towing. Zero complaints, reservations or concerns.
The above assumes the driver knows what he/she is doing. Slow down, give way, allow more time for braking and accelerating and under no circumstances make sudden steering corrections.
I successfully and confidently towed a 3,500lb boat thousands of miles with a W166 GLE. Doing the same now with a current model Cayenne with air suspension. Air suspension is a game changer - no squat when towing. Buy a model with air suspension if you can find one in your price range. GLS should be easy to find with air suspension, GLEs are less-often optioned with air ride.

I used to drive ML on W163 body and now GLE on W166 and both have excellent handling.
My GLE is having 4-cylinder diesel, rated at 200HP, so towing 20' patio boat the air resistance is crucial. When I have no problem on grades, front wind on desert, when having CC at 70 mph drops me to 4th gear quite often.
Fuel mileage goes out the door, but the car tows just fine.
