Seat heater setting changes automatically
I haven't found any examples of a similar issue on the forum. My wife reports that she turns on the seat heater to the highest setting, and after precisely 8 minutes, it drops to the next setting, and 8 minutes later, to the lowest setting. She's not telling me that the seat isn't getting warm. So I'm suspecting that this is a bad thermostat.
She can adjust the setting back up to the highest, but it just drops again on its own.
Has anyone had an issue with this?

From the W166 owners manual:
The three red indicator lamps in the button indicate the heating level you have selected.
The system automatically switches down from level 3 to level 2 after approximately eight minutes.
The system automatically switches down from level 2 to level 1 after approximately ten minutes.
The system automatically switches off approximately 35 minutes after it is set to level 1

Fairly common on modern cars. Memory is fading, but I believe all the cars I had in the last 10-15 years did this, not just MB. The automatic timers prevent the heating elements from wearing out over time. It also reduces the drying out of the leather causing it to crack over time, especially if not conditioned regularly, and while your wife doesn't have this problem, it's not particularly healthy to cook your ******** .

Mercedes has been doing this for as long as I can remember (not sure about other brands).
I found this in the 1994 E-Class brochure... Heated seats with "normal or rapid heating modes and automatic shutoff."
Happy Motoring!
