Buying a used 16/17 GLE350, need some advice

Hi all, I am going to buy a 16/17 gle350 with 3.5V6 engine and 60k less mileage with regular oil change. Is it still wise to buy this car in 2024 as it has been produced over 7 years old and normally over 50k mileage. Not sure about the reliability in the real world. Thanks for any advice and experience!

How many miles?
Got service records?
How does it look/feel/drive?
If the answers are good, I'd not hesitate to buy it if the price is right.

Thanks for reply! Yeah, I am only checking some cars with good maintenance record and less than 60k mileage. The car itself drives fine to me, but hope to know whether there will be any general problems after certain mileage or years.

Regular maintenance is key here. Spark plugs are done @ 50k and transmission service @ 60k. If the car has been cared for it should last for many years.

Although I can't give you any long term experience, i just picked up a certified 18 GLE 350 at Annapolis MB, 1 owner with 19k miles. It is fantastic, my wife drove it home 2 hours and claimed it to be her favorite car ever, so much so that she wants to sell her e46 convertible as she says after driving the gle she has no need to drive anything else
Although we paid on the high end, it really seems to be great value!

May I ask what's approximate cost for the transmission service? It seems around $400-500? Thank you!

At an independent probably at least that much. More at a dealer.

One of the most reliable MBs in the past 20 years. Transmission is the weak link. Change the transmission oil if you buy this car, and change it every 50k miles.

Keep up on all specified maintenance and it will serve you well.

Check for cam sensor and cam magnet leaks. Well documented on this site.

I have a 2017 with 80k. I do all maintenance at the dealer…so it’s pricey…but the car runs perfect. It’s the best MB I’ve owned. No leaking rear engine seal either. This is #3. Maintain it and it will serve you well.

In my personal experience from having owned them, and from my own conversations with several friends who are full-time M-B mechanics, these are likely to be the two most reliable vehicles from M-B (in the last 20 years):

W212 (specifically 2014-16 E350)
W166 (specifically 2016-18 GLE350)

In fact, I'm currently in the market for one of these models as a 3rd vehicle, since my teen is beginning to drive.

Happy Motoring!
