2016 GLE 350 requires 5w-30. I've been putting in Mobile 1 Full Synthetic Extended Performance. Things and life are getting too expensive. So my question is, is anyone else using Castrol, Penzoil, or Valvoline (and which version)? Or rather has anyone gotten any issues using them?
Walmart seems to have the best selection and lowest prices on Mobil1, Castrol, Valvoline and Pennzoil, and there's less than $1difference in price among them (5 gal jugs). How much are you expecting to save in your quest for cheaper oil?
I'm confuse your 350 takes 5w30 and not 5w40? I hate Mobil 1. Don't get me wrong Mobil 1 use to be good back in the day but there product went downhill. For oil I go with Ardeca and Liqui Moly, these two are my top choice but you also have AMS and maybe Royal Purple

For the benefit of those of us who don't lose sleep over the composition of lubricants in our crankcases, yet have the time and the money to learn from the experiences of others, please tell us the 3 major differences between identical viscosity blends of Mobil1 and LiquiMoly that we can observe by experimenting with each over whatever driving conditions will reveal them in our own cars. I will conduct such trials and report back.

If the cost of oil is objectionable, this is the wrong car for you. This is an expensive car to maintain properly.
Good oil is expensive and an engine rebuild is very expensive… just sayin…
You are 100% right about the rebuild. But I don't prescribe to the notion of price equates to quality (especially since I've now found a source that sells this so much cheaper thanks to streborx). I believe price equates to convenience....which is why I started buying mobile 1 for this in the first place. Because Benz said they use it and everybody I knew at the time who owned a Benz complained about the vehicles longevity/reliability and I didn't want to have an issue and I couldn't be bothered to look into it further (have been using it ever since). I'm looking to be educated here. What makes mobile 1 "good" because of the price that there is no alternative that costs less? I put Penzoil and Valvaline in my other cars both "high end", but again, because of the paranoia with Benz and word of mouth, I just didn't bother putting those oils into this.

I've been seeing other oil $11 to $18 cheaper per 5g. Everywhere else I've been buying it starts at $40-$42. I have literally never shopped at Walmart, so I didn't think to look there, but that's the cheapest I've ever seen this oil...can't believe I've been buying this for the past how much years so much higher than I could have. Thanks, buying it today.

I can't stand when pretentious, arrogant people say BS like this, as if they sit in rarefied air. It's just a car,and it's maintained just fine and runs like new. Shelling out unnecessary money doesn't equate to properly maintaining a vehicle and that's just ignorance. It's expensive to rectify poor maintenance. Keep this crap to yourself.

Walmart's normal price for major brand synthetic oil is about $27 / 5 gal. jug. At the Walmart where I shop, there's an O'Reilly's across the parking lot and an Autozone across the street, both within walking distance. When these auto stores run specials on the same oil brands, their sale price is around $35 for the same jug. I order oil filters from either RockAuto, or one of the online import car parts suppliers, such as autohausaz, and usually order 4 or 5 for each of my cars.
I use to run 0W40 Full Synth. Mobil 1 in my CLK500. Don't know if Mobil 1 still do it but Mobil 1 use to watered down their formula to barely adequate to increase profit.
UOAs reported that Mobil 1 have higher iron in them.
It's your vehicle not mine. I'm telling you that I have issues with Mobile 1 in my CLK500 owning it for 14 years and they discovered after testing the oil 0w40 was to thin and blew out my rod bearing. There was other reports that other owners were having the same issue like I had.
I been switching back and forth with Ardeca and Liqui Moly in my track vehicle for over 6 years. Everytime I do a motor tear down to inspect or swap out parts. Looks good on the internals. So that's when I started to add it into my GLE400 and my E55. I been sold on these (2) products. I even use there additives as well. For ALL filters/gaskets (oil, air, dust, cabin, trans) I only stick with OEM.
