GLE M276 Bi-Turbo - Serpentine Belt

I was watching few video's online. Since I'm getting ready to replace the serpentine belt. Then one of the video I watch is he never removed the intercooler. My question is how in the world did he get the belt on the crank pulley since there barley any clearance since the Intercooler is mounted in front of it? I don't even think there is enough clearance to even slide the belt onto the crank pulley.

Another video from another poster they took out the intercooler. and that's allot of work that I like to avoid.

I went through the threads. He is trying to remove the T-10 since he was swapping out one of the pulley. The other video was posted with removing the Intercooler is the one I came across weeks ago. I'm only replacing the belt only. I looked at again the other day with my nephew (BMW/Honda Tech). I'm going to attempt it without removing the Intercooler and see if I can get the belt on. For taking the belt off I may just cut it and slide it out. since I have an OEM belt.

I got it on without touching the intercooler. I had to cut the old belt because it snag on behind the crank pulley and could not free it. Took me hour and half. My friend tool saved me to get clearance I need between the intercooler and tensioner bolt.

amusa I am trying to figure out to replace belt only without removing intercooler. Do you have any tip/trick to share? I will get this tool and V belt tools. TIA.

The only tip I can give you is you need two people for one person to feed the belt behind the intercooler and the other person to fish it out. I recommend putting the belt onto the crank pulley first because this is the hardest one and the tensioner pulley is the last one but when we got it on all the pulley my friend was releasing the tension pulley while I had the belt on the edge on the alternator pulley once he slip the belt onto the tensioner pulley I slept the belt onto the alternator pulley and before he release the tension we made sure it was lined up on all the pulley.

I did use a interior panel plastic car trim pry tool to push the belt through and a pick and hook tool to grab the belt from the other side of the intercooler to pull the belt through. You will need a 17mm socket to release the tension

I used the 13mm adaptor on a 13mm wrench and a 17mm socket. Do not attempt to put a 17mm on a ratchet you can release the tension but I had to fight it to remove the ratchet/socket after I release the belt due to the clearance issue with the intercooler. This is why recommend using the wrench, adapter and the 17mm socket.

Belt diagram schematic for the M276. For others you need to check if you have the same set up.

Thank you amusa for the tips/notes/diagram. I know about the 12point 17mm low profile socket, belt wrench, Allen key to lock the tensioner for removing/installing the belt. I was under the car in the Summer for all fluids changed. I inspected the belt, it looked good, and I gave up to change the belt without removing intercooler pipes/tubes.
