Remote Start Options?

Anyone has aftermarket remote start installed on your GLE? Need to install one before winter comes.

I would just pay the membership and use the smartphones (I rather keep the wires still intact from factory). Not sure if Mercedes still offer this service through Mbrace. Since it's now Me Connect.

Edit:
I still see Mbrace website is still up.

It has and will not work anymore on the 2016 and earlier models.

When this topic came up in the past I think the only real alternative is an aftermarket system. I know Mid-City Engineering was mentioned as one of the better ones.

Problem I have with Mercedes built in remote start is that once you unlock the doors it turns off the car…..

not sure why they do this if the key can be detected it shouldn’t do that…

and that’s one thing I believe aftermarket remote starters will have a one up on the OEM

And the Mid-City unit requires a programmed keyless go key to be sacrificed. That adds another $800 plus the cost of installation. Wasn't worth it to me.

Subaru does that too. Annoying, isn't it? ROwife chuckles each time as she steps into her Jeep that keeps running when the doors get unlocked. She pushes the "go" button with her key in her pocket, the engine stays running, and she drives off as I'm restarting the Suby.

At least you can hear the exhaust when starting? /s

Anyways, just purely talking about German, for example, BMW also keeps the engine running.

Second the use of mid-city engineering and yes, requires the 2nd key. Worth the cost for me in the NE USA to have remote start for colder winters. I also added on the app control, works perfectly, coming up on a year with it in January.

Unexpected creations in Edison, NJ. $1400 for mid city module (controlled through key fob), mobile app add on, and installation.

Super cold environment, I get why. It's terrible to get into a frozen car and have to wait for the car to get warm enough to melt all the ice. Does the car shutoff when you open the door, or can you drive it without restarting?

The car stays on when you open the door. The process is to just press the push button start before you step on the brake to put in drive and go. If you step on the brake first, the car shuts off. You can set the timing of how long you want the remote start to stay on and control the temperature when the seat heaters turn on.

If you enter the car without your key, will the alarm sound and engine shut off?

Chinese heaters cost about $100 and are way more efficient, than engine start in cabin heating. Remote is standard with them.
MB also offers electric booster heaters, who are pretty cheap and common on Sprinters. Don't know if they are option on SUVs.

Not sure how you'd get into the car without the key unless you're leaving the windows down. My windows are rolled up and doors locked when the remote start is activated. So I have to have the key on me to open the door. Assuming if you're somewhere with windows down and use remote start, open the door by reaching inside the SUV, yes the alarm will go off, but don't know if it'll shut off as I've never been in this scenario. You can't push the start button to engage the drive gear selection without a key anyway.
