Any old scanner for 9 speed valve bleed?

Hi does anyone know or recommend an old scanner aside from the factory xentry unit that is able to preform the valve bleeding that is described in the workshop manual when performing a transmission fluid and filter change? Any help would be great. Our vehicle is a 2019 GLE 43/w166.

I've seen this issue come up before. Why don't you want XENTRY? The aftermarket scanners are fine to take with in the car and do some scanning and clearing of codes, but real diagnostic and repair work is best done with XENTRY. If you want something that tries to emulate XENTRY (e.g., Autel), it's not going to be exact AND more expensive after the first year when you have to get a software subscription.

I recommend you look into a membership with @BenzNinja . Much cheaper and better than any aftermarket scanner in the long run.

I have a Topdon AD900BT and a Launch Elite 2.0 MB (which are nearly identical for MB). Both scanners appear to have this function within the diagnostics tree. After scanning the vehicle, the menu path is:

System Selection
Type of Drive
VGS- Transmission Control
Actuation
Oil Level Check / Valve Flushing / Closing of Torque Converter Lockup Clutch (select one of these)

I haven't drilled down any further than this, and have never used either of these scanners for transmission servicing, so I cannot vouch for their efficacy.

However, for ~$180, the Launch scanner is a tool everyone should have if only to read codes when you get a CEL.

I need to check mine. I suspect not all menu items are available on all cars.

Apparently, I am correct. I have a 722.9 7G+ transmission and it does not give me those options. The only one under Actuation is the picture below:

Good to know -- mine's the 725.0. I guess that's why the scan is necessary before the option menu can be accessed.

Same thing in XENTRY. (Same Dyno related message, just a different translation.)

Thank you for the reply and info. I currently have 3 units in my cart that I'm looking at and wonder which one would give the best results? Thanks again.

I have the first one that has its own battery power. AFAIK, the second one is functionally identical, but requires plugging into the OBD connector for power -- less convenient for updates and retrieving scan data. The third one adds other vehicles, which can be done with the first one for a fee. I bought 2 separate Launch scanners -- one is MB specific and the other is BMW specific. -- as I like having one in each of my cars.

As @streborx stated, the difference between the Creader Elite and the Creader Elite 2.0 is the internal battery of 2.0. There is also the physical format and maybe a faster processor, but functionally they are the same. The BBA version comes supporting Benz, BMW, and Audi out of the box without additional subscriptions. You can add cars to any of the LAUNCH scanners, but add-ons require yearly subscriptions. If you only have Mercedes, I recommend the first one of the three. Don't forget to check the coupon box if there is one.

FWIW, here are the Launch screen shots from the menu I reference in #3 above. (BTW, one of the advantages of the battery powered version of the Launch scanner is the ability to capture screen shots and email them to yourself later.)
The first screen appears after "Activation", and the following 3 screens appear after selection of "Oil level check", "Valve flushing", and "Torque converter lockup clutch". These last 3 screens extend beyond what is shown by scrolling up on the scanner, where subsequent actions are presented.

Sprutz12 -- will you post your experiences with this and let us know if all goes correctly with the Launch scanner? Hope all goes well!

OMT -- the Launch scanner comes without a carrying case. I found that it and its cable fit nicely in this one.

Thanks for the screen shots. Clearly, they are for the 9G and not available on the 7G trannies.

I was quite surprised to find this capability buried down in the menu, as it's not listed as a special function as are the oil service reset and brake service functions.
The Chinese seem especially talented when it comes to appropriating and replicating technical stuff. I find it curious that in many places within the Launch menus there remain German words. Apparently there is no Chinese translation, and consequently no English translation provided. I'm finding that the Launch scanner has quite impressive capabilities, although I remain cautious about using its coding capabilities.

On any screen that allows you to change parameters (i.e., write to the module), there is the ability to make a backup first. You can also make a complete backup of the module locally to the device. In those instances, you will be asked to provide a name for the file. Be sure to make a backup before any coding change!

Yes, of course, keeping backup copies of the files is mandatory procedure. However, successful coding also relies on file transfer utilities in the coding device and in the target ECU to reliably communicate, and I am cautious because of this. If I intended to experiment extensively with coding changes, Xentry and BenzNinja would be my choice.
