w166 350D High Engine temps

Good day,

On a recent road trip I was playing around with the different displays on the car, I got the one up that shows the engine temps.

While cruising at 120km in 9th gear at very low rpm on a flat road, I was seeing temps of 105c to 108c.

I immediately panicked and let the throttle go, but then I noticed on the dial gauge that it only goes red at 135C.

I pushed on as normal, and it seemed to vary between 98 and 108c. (it was a long trip 3000km) and all went fine and there was no issues however this has got me wandering.

Is this normal? In my understanding car engines is that they operate in the 80 to 105C range anything over this is considered overheating.

What is an acceptable value in the mercs,

Do they use some sort of special coolant that prevents the water from boiling?

Should I be worried?

That seems really normal. The cooling system is pressurized (when it's hot), which raises the boiling temperature of the coolant.
