Stupid question, I'm sure, but I'm more of a Mac guy and the only Windows machine I have is running Windows 7 Pro. The Mercedes Download Manager I found requires Windows 10. I don't want to upgrade the machine from Windows 7 (I have other software on it that I need and which is not supported by Windows 10) and have not been able to find a previous version of the Mercedes Download Manager that runs on W7. So I have to ask if there is a way to get an earlier version of the Mercedes Download Manager that runs on W7? If it helps, I have an early (12/16/2024) US model 2016 GLE 300d with the code 531 Command APS NTG5/NTG5.5 system.
This is a more complicated process and we recommend using a Windows computer. But, if you do not have one on hand, you can use a Mac or Linux computer by creating a Virtual Machine.
We recommend using UTM to create a Virtual Machine, where you can follow the guide to create a Windows 11 Virtual Machine. This is only available on Mac.
Once the Virtual Machine is created, you can follow the instructions to create a USB stick with the map code. You can simply plug in the USB and select for the USB to connect to the Virtual Machine, and then the process is the same as on a Windows computer. https://mac.getutm.app/

Thanks for your reply. I have a Windows machine but it's running the old W7 Pro OS. I gather from your reply that I'd have to upgrade to at least Windows 10 to do the maps thing on that machine?

Did you manage to download the MAP?
I don't know what's the meaning of early 2024, but for a GLE from 2016 the Unit must be NTG5s1

I downloaded the NTG 5.5 map. My decode says that I have the NTG5/NTG5.5 system (code 531).
I obviously have no clue what I'm doing ... and aplogize for the confusion. All help gratefully welcomed and accepted.

I did not know either what I was doing, I therefore went into my NTG system and checked what version map I had. Next, after I downloaded the "Download_Manager_COMAND_Hard-disc_navigation"-program, looked up my map, and checked what was the newest version of the map I owe for the same system.
I downloaded it to a USB-stick, posted here the things I new (like VIN, and map version, and NTG) and got the code from the helpful Trigital, which worked perfectly!
I think I finally got myself figured out. I did some looking and am pretty sure that I have the NTG5.1 in my early (12/16/2015 build date) US 2016 model GLE, VIN is 4JGDA0EB2GA703608.
I've downloaded the North America map for NTG5*1 and I think that all I need is the PIN to update my vehicle.

I'd like to clarify the instructions at the beginning - this only works if you plug the USB drive into the bottom USB receptacle in the console storage - the top one doesn't work for this.
I had an interesting experience that I thought I should share. When I downloaded the map data I saved it to an SD card because it was faster than the USB thumb drive I had with the same capacity. When I was ready to update the maps in the vehicle, I put the SD card into one of those adapters that adapts the SD card to the USB interface. The update started loading, then stopped with the message saying (paraphrased) that the update could not be done. See the owner's manual. I found this puzzling since I was certain that the card was correctly formatted and tried another adapter with the same result. Finally I copied the data on the SD card to a USB thumb drive and plugged it in. The map update loaded perfectly and without incident.
So I don't know if the adapters didn't have the right stuff or what, but I thought I should share to the potential benefit of others.
