Battery replacement rip-off

Last time I ask thr dealer to replace the battery of a merc was around 7 years ago. I paid around $700 for thr battery and 1.5 hour of labour. I have posted months ago about my GLE43 acting up and so pushed my luck till today when it jist went caput. Called the dealer to ask for battery replacement and was quoted a staggering $1650+tax to replace the main and aux battery. I literally laugh at the phone and told them "no thank you". Went to my local parts store bought a $350 AGM battery and a $50 aux battery and a pack of beer. 1.5 later the 43 is pouring again. Did not do any thing just yank the hige battery under the front passenger seat but the aux battery took 3 cans of beer as the germans hide it below the left rear seat which requires the removal of the back rest, some panels.

Youtube is your friend and DO NOT PAY THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE BATTERIES. Saving +$1k made my day.

no cutting required. You just need to yank the carpet from the side where the seatbelt is bolted. It is a little hard first but you will realize even though it is stiff it can be folded and won't deform. It is padded carpet after all. Just push it back afterwards. You just need to remove 3 bolts below the seat (2 for the seat belt, 1 for the backrest) and 4 bolts (2 for the cargo hook holder, 2 for the rear seat) at the back and unclip the 2 elastic strap clipped on the spare wheel cover.

The backrest is heavy so extra careful pulling it out from the door. Put lots of towel on the rear quarter panel. It only took me around 30 min to remove everything and that is with 3 cans of beer and staring at my little phone screen.

Make sure you have the proper star socket for the bolts.

@chassis Ownership report thread has a ton of information in it, including the WIS procedures for actually doing the task. The YouTube videos are great for clarification but the WIS documents are the official source. The WIS procedure for the 2016-up aux battery is in my post here.

Just sayin' - the search function, especially the Advanced search function, is extremely useful and can address many issues without having to generate a new post.
