RPM spike while stopped

I’m visiting from the W222 group to ask a question for a friend who just got a ‘16 GLE400 4 months ago with 45K.
He’s not a “car guy” so I am here to see what I can find out.
He has experienced unexpected drastic RPM increases while stopped at lights. Car in drive, foot on brake.
The engine takes off to the degree that has to hard brake until he gets it into neutral.
this has happened 3-4 times in the 4 months that he has owned the car.
I’m going to help him through the process of getting it scanned and dealt with but would love to get your ideas and feedback before then.
BTW..We are old timers (He is 80 and I am 77) so appreciate the help from the younger “whipersnaps”😉
Thank you all
Chuck

I belief this car doesn't have MAF (mass air flow) sensor. It has MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor instead of MAF. I just checked and inspected all the usual suspects -- engine air filters and its sensors (image1), MAP sensor (red arrow), and the two turbo air intake pressure sensors. I did not see any unusual. I have not cleaned the sensors yet, since I ran out of the MAF sensor cleaner. I just replaced engine and cabin filters in the Summer. I will diagnose in the Spring. Right now it is too cold for any indoor/outdoor garage work in Toronto.
Anyone has any ideas or direction would be appreciated.
