2018 GLE 400 grinding noise from compressor
Issues/Problems:
1 Grinding compressor noise from the passenger side, air strut looks okay and I don't seen see any leak/low. The noise seems to coincide when step on the brake. The grinding noise could last anywhere between 30s to one/two minutes during the drive or stop at the red light. It is intermittent and very often.
2 The RPM jump over 2.5K when step on brake to slow down in city/local drive. The idle RPM is about 0.5K and no fluctuate when idle. It is intermittent and random.
From issue #1:
Inspected/checked air strut and they look good and no leak (I think and need to confirm for this). I know the rotor need to go (deep grooves wear lines) and the pad is about 80% left. The front brake is a bit soft and doesn't grip well. I flushed the brake fluid 3 times in the Summer and did not help (I don't think air bubbles in the lines). The rear rotors and brakes look good, smooth, and no grooves line. Turned off the distronic and heater/ac, but the noise is still there. Drive in Sport mode, it is hardly hear the grinding noise -- either distronic/ac off or on. It drives me nut that I could not pin point where the noise comes from. I cannot replicate the grinding noise when Idle in the drive way. Well, I may need the stethoscope and a big empty parking lot in the Spring to diagnose it.
From issue #2:
Inspected/checked engine air filters and sensors. Checked/inspected the MAP sensor (I don't think it has MAF sensor for GLE 400) and the turbo air intake sensors at the turbo coolant. Nothing is unusual for the sensors. I have not inspected/checked the PCV yet (it is about time to replace soon). I know/belief the probable cause would be something to do with the air intake volume/pressure or could be fuel injection pressure.
Any tips/tricks would be appreciated. TIA.
