rear brake pads early replacement
Currently owned 2016 GLE 350 needed rear brakes to be replaced at 35,000 miles which is about 25-35K miles sooner than 20 previously-owned vehicles. While there's no active lane centering assist optioned, I do use the brake HOLD feature at traffic lights. Was told that the drag and resulting friction when accelerating on the rear pads causes them to wear prematurely. The solution to avoid the issue is to step hard on the pedal again which releases the HOLD feature prior to accelerating.

My notes for the ML63 '12 should be similar if not the same.... torq specs, parts, e-brake procedure.... no special tools needed..... special mb tool ? use a big C clamp or I used the hydraulic ones...

Use 13 mm socket remove retaining bolt
push out pins with a punch
Pads should pull out easily... If not.. I used a flat blade screwdriver to gently push them into the caliper.
The rear pads require putting the car into pad service mode as described here:
1. Turn the ignition to Position 1.
2. Make sure the mileage is displayed in the dash center window
3. Don't wait very long before accomplishing the next step: Push the far right "telephone accept call" button on the steering wheel, then push the "OK" button on the left and hold both down for 5 seconds or so.
4. The workshop menu should appear.
5. Scroll down to "Pad replacement" and push OK.
6. Choose OK for "Moving to fitting position"

This will move the cylinder in the caliper far enough back to replace the pads...

WTF I'm I doing wrong. When trying to release the rear E-Brakes I get this message. I got the rear on jack stands and the wheels removed. I wonder if the car has to level first?

Thanks Bro! That worked. I had followed the directions from the video posted above and don't recall the guy saying to release the brake then do the "fitting" procedure. Video said put key in Position 1 but to disconnect the E=Brake you have to put key in Position 2. S_hit I'm worn out now LOL. I took the wheels off and put them back on. I'll try again tomorrow or Sunday..
