Got Mice?
A mouse had made a bed in the right air filter housing. You can see on the lower right where the critter was chewing on the corner of the air filter as well. It also made a bed on top of the engine towards the back where the heat sink is located (no picture)
I had heard of the Rid-A-Rat strobe lights you can install in the engine compartment that is supposed to keep mice away. Here is where I installed it...
The reason I put it here is that when the hood is closed it blocks off any light from the strobe to where the engine air intake ducts are located except for a small hole in between the air intake ducts hoping it would shine through. Just to test the effectiveness of the rid-a-rat light, I also put a sticky mouse trap pad (with a little dab of tasty peanut butter) on top of the engine heat sink over night. Here is what I found this morning.
So, the strobe didn't seem to deter, so I decided to make air intake guards to keep the critter out of my air filters ($51 X 2).
In defense of the rid-a-rat device they say to thoroughly clean the area where the bed was located or they will follow their own scent and likely come back. Today I am cleaning the area and will put another sticky pad with peanut butter to see if it comes back.
Cheers!
