Looks great! Enjoy. I have not seen anything on this site regarding aftermarket (non-MB) running boards.
look on eBay motors for used running boars. You will find some there. You will need to decide if you want the lighted one or non lighted. Im sure lighted ones would cost much more since you would have to get the dealer to hook them up through the electrical system.
My ML came with running boards and I hated them. You have to step out past them when getting out and it leaves dirt on your pants. Some like it due to the wife or children having an easier time getting in. My wife did not like them either.
I found the standard rocker panels on eBay and put them on the car myself. Search for ML and GLE running boards.
If you search on this site you will find numerous posts about pros and cons and I bet you will find someone who wants to sell theirs. In fact I would have traded you because you have the AMG rockers which are different from standard rockers. Also, ML and GLE rockers are the same ones. Good luck.
I'm a fan of the running boards. Yes, they catch the back of your leg when getting out. It's not a big deal for me. I use the running boards to step up when loading bikes on the roof rack. And I like the appearance. It's a subjective thing. I had running boards on an older Toyota 4Runner, and when I took them off, thought the vehicle looked better. The GLE running boards are well integrated into the body appearance.
That actually makes a lot of sense, thank you for the advice Isawelvis. I was hoping I could use the running board to "step up" into the vehicle, as I was concerned that sliding in over the seat bolsters could over time scratch or damage the leather. I do think it enhances the look of the car a lot though, and as Chassis mentioned, helps if you plan to carry anything on the roof. However, I can at last again use my bicycle rack, now that I have a tow hitch again!
