I'm glad I found this thread.. I was planning to get the Pirelli AS tires for my future GLE but I didn't see that they were discontinued, they're just out of stock everywhere.
The Nittos look good and are about half the price lol, please share your experiences with them once you have it.
This should work but wheels will be a tad stretched at the rear. May not be look you like but I've ran way more stretched with zero issues.
Yeah Nittos are the only one with a 315 in the rear that’s A/S but still leaves you with no cable options.
As mentioned in California chain control is a real thing and you have to at least be carrying them to pass certain checks when the storms are bad. If it does go to R3, you have to put them on.
If I go with 285s all the way around it solves the A/S problems and allows me to get tire cables for the rear in the worst case scenario.
Here are the three options I’m looking at for 285s. I looked at another forum and I saw photos of someone who put them all around. It definitely is not as aesthetically pleasing but with the options I have… I’m willing to sacrifice that to enjoy a fun season of snowboarding without having to swap wheels and tires every single time I go on the weekend.
Just an update. Mercedes’ dealer, nor Americas tires would install the 285s on the back. Both said it’s not a width issue, but a load issue with the 285s.
For my 22's, I had Pirelli Scorpion Zero "All Seasons" on order from my dealer from many months, before Pirelli decided all of a sudden to discontinue the rears only.
Accordingly, I had no choice but to opt for the Michelin Pilot 4s.
Nitto Tire NT420V was sketchy. They said they had a backlog on the rears also, so anything I would see for sale now would years old stock. I confirmed this with 2 online Nitto suppliers.
So, if I ever had a warranty problem with Nitto and there was no stock replacement available, then they would just give me money, but no tire.
Can't drive on 3 tires.
Since Nitto is nowhere near Michelin for quality control, I wouldn't take the chance with them.
For now, we all are stuck with a "1st world problem".

Don't tires typically last for 10 years after the manufacturing date? Even if the tires are years old, you'd still run through them before they expire. And if they have old stock, wouldn't your warranty still be fulfilled?
No, tires do not last anywhere near 10 years. You should never buy one more than two years max past the manufacturing date.
At the time I pulled the trigger, there was very very limited old stock, especially the rears at these sizes.
The largest supplier online for these honestly told me I was taking my chances, and could offer no more than a monetary compensation if stock was not available for a warranty claim.
Before Pirelli discontinued the rears, they told me the exact same thing.
Essentially, they explained that once they got back up and running to meet supply, they were not going to make our sizes a priority since few people to buy them.
Perhaps it is different now, but that’s how it was for me only several months ago, which would explain why the rears suddenly were discontinued.
I think there are a few more tire options at the alternative size. I would suggest swapping them all out using the alternative size since they most closely match each other in rolling diameters.
I’m not sure how much of an issue there would be if you mixed and matched the sizes between front and back since the rolling diameters vs OEM is only off by 0.3”. I don’t believe that would present any issues as I know the stock staggered setup on my previous car was off by 0.2”.
It’s funny because it’s gonna be almost 80° here in Southern California today. So the summer tires are technically fine I never would need to take them off only because I like to go to the mountains it becomes a problem. So I get why they sell them here but I’m still in the same situation.
I drive on 21's, so there is a slightly better selection of tires. However, at the track, the fronts are not up to 1.5G's with a 5,000# car (they overheat quickly), so I've been evaluating larger sizes up front.
The second link is set up for my stock tires and wheels, but I haven't measured suspension and fender clearance. Those measurements can be added on the full website, but it's limited for phones.
Clearance, changes in performance and other things are calculated/estimated.

Unfortunately for me, I'm becoming convinced that MO-1 tires, specifically developed for AMG autos, actually do work better than non-MO-1 tires. It's unfortunate because it further limits selection.
I installed 20” rims with Blizzak DM-v2 265/50 R20 on my 2022 53. I had the same tires on my 2017 GLS450 which is bigger and heavier. No problems with these wheels and drives great in the snow.

Kirk thanks for sharing the photo. Yes I’m aware of going with a smaller wheel or dedicated winter tires, but for my situation living in warm and sunny Orange County CA, it doesn’t make sense.
Still frustrated that I don’t have a real solution and I just picked up my roof racks. Got the Ikon pass and I’m ready for the storms to hit our local mountains, but my car isn’t.

I asked if they would swap tires from my 450 but they wouldn't. As I live in NYC (aside from potholes), I use my car all the time and need all seasons too. Don't forget to check your Dealer. I found the best selection AND pricing there. Saved >$200 there compared to Tire Rack.

Hi, Funny thing was that the dealer was ordering from Tirerack and extended the same price so I figured better I buy it direct and ship to them and get the two year warranty included form Tirerack (for whatever it's worth). Choice wise It's the only all season I could find right now that fits the 22's

Since the Pirelli’s are now discontinued, going forwarded once they wear out, I can only pray Michelin will release their Pilot Sport All Season in this wide rear tire size. I did email them and they said they don’t have any immediate plans to release them in the size so that’s disheartening….
Trust me, I really had to contemplate it because I feel disgusting paying this much for tires that aren’t even that modern in terms of design…
But the season is already underway for me and I want to go snowboarding. It has been dumping in Mammoth so I just had to suck it up and purchase them. I’m gonna sell my Mitchlen tires to the tire shop for a little cash back.

My vehicle isn't scheduled to be delivered for another month so we'll see. The Michelin 4s are just too good to toss as soon as I pick up the vehicle.

For sure. Valid points. But all I know is the Pros are worse in the snow than the Pirelli all seasons.
I’m also going to buy snow socks as I’ve seen they work pretty decent. It’s the right fit for the clearance the vehicle and I don’t really care if they get destroyed after a couple sessions.

Oh yes you can use the PS4 in the snow at all. You're not supposed to use them under 40 degrees F. Let us know how the Pirellis do when you head to the mountain!
