All season 22inch Tire replacement for GLE53AMG

Hi,
I am trying to buy GLE53AMG and a specific one that I was looking, comes with 22inch performance summer tire. Since I live in east coast where it sonws, I wanted to replace this with All season tire and the dealership said they ca do that. They showed me
This Tire
But another dealer told me there is no Merceds approved 22inch all season tires. Is that true? The link looks like it's 21inch for me. Not sure if the dealership is lying or making a mistake. Are the tires in the link safe to be replaced for GLE 53 AMG?

Only MBs - the best or nothing
Dealer IS correct. But you do have two choices: there is only one A/S tire in both 285/40-22 Fr and 325/35-22 Rr, and only one Winter tire. Both are available at The Tire Rack. The price just for the tires? $2,350+. With local install... about $2,500+. IF A/S is required, consider getting 53 with 21", which are supplied with V speed rated A/S Continentals.

so the deal was purchasing GLE53 AMG that cones with 22inch summer tire but since I wanted all season, the dealership will install for me and take care of the price. When i asked them what kind of tire they will be replacing, he showed me
  • 275/45R21 110V XL
  • Rear:315/40R21 115V XL

these are 21 so I mentioned it and he said I’d better go with 21. I feel like he was trying to use cheap ones and switch to 21 without informing me. Maybe I should ho to another dealer?

I purposely bought the 21" wheels because I needed snow tires in Denver. Dealership said winter tires are not available for 22" wheels.

Because I live in Canada and salt is very overused here, I have to purchase new wheels and tires for winter so the original size is irrelevant. This is not a cheap alternative BTW. $4500 CDN.

Hello I have this same problem. Bought the car last month. Picked up my roof racks today for the snowboards and thought, holy **** what tires am I running.

Yup… Michelin Pro 4S dedicated summer tires. The Michelin Pro A/S look amazing but don’t come in the tire size for 22” wheels.

All I can find are these Pirellis. Did anyone find anything else.

Thank you for the reply. Here’s my dilemma. I live in Orange County CA. We probably get the most mild winters in all the country.

The Michelin Pro 4 S tires are perfect year round here. My problem is that I have my Ikon pass and snowboard all season in Big Bear and Mammoth, our local mountains. When I had my rubicon I would head up right before the big storms. Often times waking up to 3-4 feet of snow overnight.

The Perelli scorpion winters don’t make a ton of sense driving around Southern California even in the winter, but the Michelin Pro 4S tires could be a death sentence in the big storms when I’m up in the mountains.

I don’t want to mess with changing out wheels and tires every couple weekends just to go snowboarding. This is where I’m stuck.

I'm in the same boat as you. I live in Chicago and Snowboard in the Wisconsin, Michigan and Iowa where they don't know. All Seasons won't cut it.

I have a GLE53 with 22's coming next month. Summer tires cannot be under any load in an bient temperature below 40 degrees F. Supposedly handling is also absolutely horrendous with winter tires when on dry ground.

I haven't decided what I'll do, but I may have to buy a 2nd set of rims and do winters. It will be insanely expensive 😩.

It’s definitely not an ideal situation. Something I should have researched a bit more. I’m really bummed because those scorpions are going to be aweful driving around the city. We’re in the mid 70s for highs right now.

I researched it and still made the decision. The only other vehicle would be a RR sport SVR but love the MB interior. If you can change swap your own wheels with a jack, maybe just swap when you go to the mountain.

Yeah I have all the tools. I did it with my Jeep but only for a modification. Swapping my wheels every other weekend to go snowboarding is going to put a damp on the season and cause me to go less.

I cannot believe they don’t make the Michelin Pro A/S in this size. That’s the ideal tire for what I’m doing.

Thus would work but god damn that’s pricey for the weekend trips.

I found these two all seasons but the Pirreli rears are sold out. I could get away with all seasons and a set of tire cables if it gets really dicey.

I plan to go with the Nittos. Pirelli All-seasons in this size are discontinued. I used Pirelli all-seasons on my AMG GLC last year for snowboarding and was sliding all over the place. I was lucky I never crashed.

Maybe I'll consider tire cables for my weekend trips. What would you recommend? I've never had to use anything like that because they plow all the roads here.

Do you plan to go with the Nittos as the only tire all year? Summer and winter?

That sucks to hear they’re discontinued. That was my next plan to go with the Pirelli all seasons and buy a good pair of tire cables for when the roads get really dicey. Unfortunately they don’t make any cables that I can find in 325/35R22 and Mercedes specifically states with 4Matic they must go on the back.

What’s funny is that here in California we have various chain restrictions. When the restrictions hit R2 level, you can get away with mud + snow tires (all season) and 4WD/AWD.

While R3 restrictions don’t happen often because they usually just shut down the roads before then, they do come up. That means all vehicles even those with four-wheel-drive and all wheel drive must have chains on. I usually track storms and will rent an Airbnb prior to the big storm so by the time I wake up I’m driving straight to the slopes. Even when they shut down the roads coming up the mountain it’s still R3 restricted in the mountains area.

I watched countless four-wheel-drive vehicles being pulled over by CHP in those restrictions.

So what am I going to do? I don’t know… I had a Rubicon before this and I never had to worry about a thing in the mountains.

These are also an option but with temps in the low 70s during my winter here in SoCal all dedicated winter tires seem silly to me.

I’m truly at a rock and a hard place.

I'm not totally sure. Right now my plan is to use the Michelins after my car arrives next year until November 23 and replace with all season Nittos.

I don't want to store and swap wheels each season. Living in the city in Chicago I have no place to store 4 wheel/tire combos that big. I already take up so much space in my condo garage with my other car and motorcycles.

Do you think the Nitto all seasons will do better than the Perelli all seasons you were running on the GLC 43?

See I would consider swapping out to the Nittos as well and keep tires cables in the vehicle in the event I needed more traction than the Nittos could deliver, but as mentioned, doesn’t look like anybody sells them in the rear tire size.

One thing I know is the OE Pro 4’s on there now cannot be taken up during a storm. Right now all roads are plowed and it’s fairly warm in the local mountains, but come mid December, all bets are off.

From my understanding the Nittos > Pirellis in light snow but the Pirellis > Nittos in the dry. I'm willing to try the Nittos for the price and availability.

I'd rather run Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4s like I have on my GTR if they made them.

Before I started digging in that’s exactly what I was going to go with until I realized they didn’t make them which shocked me.

I am a bit frustrated to say the least. Guess that’s what I get for ditching the Rubicon.

Broaden your search to "All Weather" instead of "All Season."
Also go beyond Tire Rack. They don't carry brands like Nokian.
I had the best availability last year and pricing from my dealer.

It's pretty late in the season to be shopping for snow tires, especially with supply issues we've had over the last couple years.
Good luck!

thanks I’m actually not looking for dedicated winter tires. I’m thinking about just going with 285s all the way around I’m calling it a day

I'm glad I found this thread.. I was planning to get the Pirelli AS tires for my future GLE but I didn't see that they were discontinued, they're just out of stock everywhere.
The Nittos look good and are about half the price lol, please share your experiences with them once you have it.

This should work but wheels will be a tad stretched at the rear. May not be look you like but I've ran way more stretched with zero issues.
