There are two reasons for it - improving CAFE ratings, and saving fuel / environment. They do both.

I just posted some findings in another thread - here's that post.

I agree, CAFE ratings are the primary impetus for manufacturers. Regardless of whether the MB engineered feature is the “slickest thing since owl sh-t”, mine won’t be used, like ever. It will always be defeated at start-up. In case you can’t tell, I’m a redneck, a proud one; I need none of this stuff on my vehicles. I’m glad I don’t have to deal with such silliness on my 2020 3/4 ton F-250 (diesel, of course).

Ha. You should trade your new diesel for a 1967, if you really want to get rid of all that Silliness.

There's no escaping some requirements on ever-improving ICE's any more, but some advances are actually nice in their applications.

At least Mercedes has made their start-stop nearly imperceptible, and without additional wear. Plus you can easily disable it.

BTW, among other advantages of the ISG system, the ISG also allows a lighter flywheel (none) and the idle speed is held to only 500 rpm by the same ISG that adds 189 ft-lbs of instant torque.

[QUOTE=ibrakelate;8367791]Well, first of all, hi to all if you, I picked up our new daily driver, the 2021 GLE 53 AMG 3 weeks a go. Haven't gotten to drive it around too much, but this week I noticed the car was acting weird.

When accelerating, right around 20mph, you hear an audible "thump" and the car jerks.

While coming to a stop, right around 6mph, again you hear a "thump" and the car jerks.

Took the car to my local dealer today who has always been amazing with me, and the service advisor jumped in for a quick drive with me and he also noticed that it wasn't normal. The car only has 400 miles and already having issues, which isn't exactly a good experience.

I wanted see if anyone else had similar problems.

It almost feels like something is engaging and disengaging. I tried to a do a search on the forum, but haven't seen anything like this reported.[I'm having the same issue and the mercedes dealer can't figure it out. Do you know what's wrong with your car yet?
