I have followed this thread since I got the car. Everything is right here. Today (6/10/23) I tried switching out my winter tires (21 inch silver rims with Pirellis) to my 22 inch tires (22 inch rims with Yokohamas). OMG after having all the correct tools to actually get the tire off (nice pneumatic jack, impact wrench with long socket, etc.). So holy cow, once you get this giant 21 inch tire off, you're then tasked with getting the 22 inch tire on. I have never had rims like these where the tire attaches with bolts as opposed to bolts sticking out of axle. Quite the surprise here it never occurred to me that there would not be "pins" to mount the tire onto, even though I had already read this thread! I have no idea why things are like this, guess it has to do with the brakes and performance wheels? Seems odd to me. But this is what it is. I was in my driveway in perfect weather and this was a nightmare. Changing a tire on the side of the road is going to be a complete nightmare. But I think once should always be prepared for the worst possible outcomes. So I'll be getting the rest of the tools needed to complete this (portable tire lifter, 2 hang pins), and hopefully never have to use any of this. Off goes my car to the dealer to get the wheels changed out! Good luck to you all, hope no one ever has to do this...

Many cars, including my BMW use lugs instead of studs. Not sure why, because studs make fitting a new wheel in easier. You can do a conversion.

I’m not sure about a portable tire lifter, but you must have the pins. Who knows why the krauts do this (use bolts versus studs and lugs) but my M5 was the same. It is hard to do a tire wheel change without the pins…

It's almost as difficult with only one pin.
Get two.
I just purchased one too for my 21" wheels
I need to find the Emergency Jack kit for my GLE, the other is missing from the previous owner. all that is left is the tow bolt, the spare tire, the air compressor with the slime. and that's it.

I wonder if this is still true of the V167 Red Calipers.
The inflatable spare is heavy enough that I haven't taken the time even to lift it out of its home, much less try to fit it.
But my spare is MUCH wider than the previous temporary (inflated) P155 tire.
Now that I think of it, I need to verify that I have the correct bolts for the spare. The old spare (164 - 166) needed different bolts.
Does anybody know if the new GLE 53 spare uses the same bolts as the road wheel?
On my 21 63S there is not a spare. It came with a can of sealant "tirefit" and small compressor from the factory. I think they call it a "tire mobility kit". Supposedly with the 3D Burmeister option the amp and such took up the spare tire space. I wonder how long the goo stays good.
What is this - some kind of challenge? Geez. Please read my entire posts before getting all combative and playing like a Facebook antagonist.
No, I haven't removed the spare liner. No, I haven't bought a lot of other tire/wheel sizes and tried fitting them. Yes, there seems to be a lot of space under there, and removing the liner might gain 2" or more in diameter. My inflatable spare is 10" wide, and it fits under the floor. There might be another inch or three with the liner removed. To repeat: No, I haven't tried it yet.
Here's my spare - '21 GLE53 SUV, 21" wheels.
That's what I have in my spare tire boot too. minus the jack to lift the car. I'll have to buy that and the Dyna plug kit and the pins for mounting the wheel. I'll keep a chopped piece of 2X4 for jack height too. Thanks for the tips guys.

I ordered a spare tire kit for my GLE 350 from the dealer. $135 bucks. I'd be curious how long those collapsible spares last before you have to replace them. I know on my E class I had to replace the spare tire every so many years.
