Rear spoiler unglued / coming off..

Hi guys, I've got a 2016 GLE Coupe 43 and I noticed the rear spoiler is kind of unglued and looks like it's very easy to come off - attaching pictures and videos. Is this normal? Do you know how it can be fixed? Thanks a lot! Otherwise it's the best car ever!

This should be a straightforward (if tedious) fix. The way I’d do this would be to detach it fully, clean and remove all adhesive residue, and re-attach with 3M tape.

Cheers,

That’s the right way to do it. Clean surface with goo gone, followed by dish soap and water, then alcohol wipe. Use 3M VHB Tape if you don’t want it to lift off again.

Hi guys, I have removed the spoiler and am trying to find a way to replace it. The issue is I was able to clean the glue from the car but it's very difficult to remove it from the spoiler. I guess if I put the 3M VHB tape without cleaning the old glue from the spoiler it won't hold properly? I was thinking of putting some glue like "Sticks Like Sht" between the spoiler and the 3M VHB tape - would that work?
Separately, what kind of tape have you guys used? I was only able to get a 19mm wide 3M VHB tape but it's double the width I need (photos below). And even the upper and lower surfaces of the spoiler have different widths - the lower one is super narrow, what should I use there? I guess any tape should only be on the flat surface and not on the plastic "gills"? Not sure what the purpose of those plastic gills is..
Thanks in advance!

You can use the 3M website and describe your application in detail, and a representative will give you the best products to use.

I know in the past I've used an adhesion promoter with the VHB tapes like their primer 94. Makes it really stick. Clean surface is a must.

Thanks. What about the width of the tape - I can't find VHB tabe that is so narrow so it doesn't go above the gills. I would need something like 5 or 6mm width but that VHB tape doesn't exist.. Should I apply a wider tape so it covers the gills or would it get unglues easily?

Excellent question but I have no experience in very narrow tapes such as you ask about. It might be best to seek advice from a good local body shop on how to proceed. Wish I could help more but I'm just a weekend car nut lol.

I'd use an exact knife and cut the tape.
