Effective lifetime Encumbrances on all MB Vehicles on or after 2021

I learned that MB will no longer provide safety compliance letters to any Canadian owners of any MB vehicles manufactured on or after 2021. The intent is to "ensure that the vehicles stay in the markets in which they are intended". This basically prevents you from being able to register the vehicle in the USA - even for your own personal use if you own a home in the USA.

This amounts to an effective undisclosed lifetime encumbrance on all MB vehicles going forward.

I could sue the company, but I'm sure that I represent a very small minority of owners that flips back and forth between the countries.

Porsche was a refreshingly different experience. Not only will they assist you in shipping - they will assist you with registration compliance, etc.

So I'm switching the family fleet going forward. Has anybody else run into this problem? Or perhaps going the other way (USA to Canada)?

I don't think there's any automobile from any manufacturer in the ROW (Rest Of the World) that can be registered in the US, until they're old enough to import. I think that's 25 years.

There are differences in safety and emissions regulations, such as headlights. Canada has been lucky.

Canada is actually classified as American market in the manufacturing process and now a row car. Most of the restrictions on the us are the same in Canada (regarding importation of row vehicles)
As such vehicles purchased in Canada can be imported to the us fairly easily. Usually some front impact notices, daytime running lights, baby seat hold downs and gauge cluster unit readouts must be changed. There are a few models that have bumpers and marker setups that can't allow us vehicles to be imported to Canada but I'm unaware of any the other way. There was such a market for people buying vehicles in Canada and transporting them to the us that manufactures have come up with interesting ways to stop the flow, some make you sign a 6 month agreement to keep the vehicle in Canada and apparently if the op is correct Mercedes is now trying to prevent it all together

A vehicle can be built in Canada to U S specs can obviously sold in the U S. But Canadian spec cars can't. This isn't a Mercedes policy, it's the NHTSA. Or EPA, or CARB.
U S cars aren't ROW cars. They are U S cars. Nothing new here.
