GLE 53 AMG Service "Inflation"

Pretty happy with the GLE 53 (2021, 20K miles). It's due for it's first "B Service". Mercedes-Benz of Marietta, GA quoted $1,660 for "Oil, Filter, Cleaning of Water drains, Body drains and AC drains, along with lubrication of hinges, latches, brake fluid flush, cabin/dust filters, wiper blades".

I know labor inflation and supply chain issues are a thing....but I expected a generally overpriced $450-600 service. Not a $1660 service...sheesh (I'm not paying that). Interested in other experiences.

I'll change my own cabin filters & wiper blades out, and will find a guy that will do the oil / brake flush !

Curious if this group has a favorite online destination for part's ordering ? Thank you all in advance.

It sounds like that dealer was offering an a la carte menu.
Ask them what the minimum required to keep your warranty intact, and add optional services that you choose.

Body and sunroof drains are really important to be kept clear, but not doing it usually only shows up a decade later. I don't think they're required to keep any warranties in effect.

That’s insane. I would like to hear what other people are paying as well.

I actually turned down PPM based on a rough estimate from my local dealer, but I didn’t feel very confident in the estimate she gave me: $200 for $300 for A and $400 to $500 for B with a lot of caveats.

Someone else posted this recently:

@Frenetic I think I would work on developing a relationship with the Dealer.
It sounds like you're starting out on an adversarial note. 🙁

Ask them to explain the charges to you, and why they recommend them. Without seeing what they wrote, none of us really have an opinion.

I'm a little confused. To whom am I being adversarial against?

My experience is that the dealers always adds items to the recommended service in order to get more $$$ in their bank account.

What I do is look at the factory recommended items (I think it's in your maintenance manual) for the particular service due and tell to price and perform ONLY those items.

The same person who DIDN'T complain about paying $90k for what is a glorified cheaply built SUV with AMG marketing badges, that's who. I guess being a fool is subjective, eh?

Let me get this straight, you have the gall to make fun of someone who is questioning the ridiculous and obviously price-gouging service price. Then when questioned about that, you mention that you didn’t complain about buying a vehicle you’ve never owned? Ok lol. Then, in the same breath, call us out for being fools because we purchased one?

If you hate this car so much, then why are you even wasting your time posting here? That is foolish in my book.

A fool and their money will soon part. Don't be that fool. I feel it's a good thing that you are questioning the prices. Most would just pay it and not think twice and that's why the dealer will do it. Seems way out of line to me. Then again, I do most of my own maintenance, so all dealer prices seem out of line.

You don't have to be a fool. Just be a smart consumer.
It's just like standing in the checkout line at Home Depot. You don't really need that Milwaukee battery or the Snickers candy bar. Just say no and check out.
Or you can buy the Milwaukee and complain.

You need to drive one of those cars.
They are stellar, and $90,000 is a bargain for that class of car. There is a lot more AMG in the 53 than just the badges. Everything from steering knuckles to seats, MBUX to tailpipes. I think you're living in the past.

If you can't drive, maybe you sit in one and enjoy the higher quality, compared to the rivals.
Better yet, hit the track to see the comparison with more expensive cars in the category.

From time to time you make a valuable comment. This isn't one of those times.

I've driven one and my first impression was the power was unimpressive for an AMG badged product. I know it's a big, heavy, SUV but the boosted straight 6 just groaned and the flat power curve didn't offer any feel of increased power levels, and the engine sound piped through the speakers was as obvious as a toupee on a bald man. One really needs the 63 in this size vehicle. The ride and handling were good, though. The interior seems barren and plasticy-soft with a cartoonized stuck-on instrument cluster tablet, a bland dashboard, chintzy led lights that look like an eBay add-on, or a JC Whitney catalog for those old enough to remember that! The doors and body panels, fender flares all seem thin and flexible like a Japanese economy car. The gas door didn't fit right and putting pressure on it caused the entire rear fender to flex and twist. The fender flares can be grabbed with one hand and when pulled it feels like you could rip them right off the car while peeling the fenders like a sardine can. The mbux "Hey Mercedes" is a useless gimmick that seems to understand less commands than Teddy Ruxpin from the 1980's. Overall a very cheaply built and overpriced car and the "53" seems suited for a woman who wants "something sporty" or for a man who doesn't really know anything about cars but wants to pad his ego without spending for the 63. I've seen them on the road and from far away look like a big GLC egg. Meh...

If you hate this car so much, why do you even bother to post here?

You act more like a jealous jilted lover than anything else. I can understand not liking a car, but to act the way you do makes it seem like the GLE personally affronted you somehow and you now have some vendetta against in inanimate object, lol. I don’t know your story and I don’t care. At first I was a little confused at your posting but now it’s just funny. If only you can see your posts from other people’s perspective lol. Did the GLE hurt your feelings…?
