USE CAUTION with inside of windshield
If you have the Acoustic Comfort Package, be advised that, as MBUSA says, "The windshield and side windows are laminated with an acoustic and heat-absorbing membrane." This seems to be a plastic coating on the inside of the windshield which is easily damaged. I had to remove a transponder which was stuck onto the inside of my windshield in the bottom area which does not attenuate electromagnetic signals. Unfortunately this damaged the heat-absorbing membrane and had to paint over the area on the inside of the windshield with flat black high-temp paint. I now have a "motorcycle transponder" installed on the outside of my headlight. I'd avoid anything applied to the inside of your windshield.

What are the recommended cleaning instructions? A damp rag or is glass cleaner (windex) okay? I don't recall seeing anything in the owners manual. On the side windows I believe the membrane is sandwiched in the middle of the glass.

I wouldn’t use any ammonia-type cleaners in my opinion, assuming this film can react and discolor like tint. In fact, if you treat it like window tint from a cleaning perspective you’ll probably be ok.
I avoid windex completely and use specially formulated window cleaners designed for tint. I also use spray sealants like Chemical Guys V07 on tinted windows and it works surprisingly well without damaging the tint. It streaks of course but if you use a heavy microfiber towel it cleans really well with the benefit of repealing dust. I apply this on both sides of my glass. It’s great.
I’ve also used suction mounts on tinted glass but no idea of this film is different.

I've got one up near the mirror in the designated "no interference square," and I'm not getting a reliable Read. Probably need a motorcycle transponder also.

Gordon, what was the reason for having to paint over the damage? Did you initiate some sort of peeling or something?

I was not aware of the film on the inside of the windshield so unfortunately I tried using a razor blade to remove the difficult adhesive remaining and in the process I also removed some of the windshield film. The film has an orange tint and this looked terrible particularly around the edges. I ended up scraping off a square about the size of a 3"x5" card which was actually pretty difficult because it is in such close proximity to the dash. I carefully scored the edges of the area to be removed with a small box cutter knife and ended up scraping off the film with a wood chisel. That's the only way I could reach down to the base of the windshield above the dash. I used regular paint thinner on a microfiber rag followed by Windex-type glass cleaner to remove the final traces of the film adhesive. The film was not damaged by a small amount of paint thinner.
I then masked off this area and painted it with ceramic high-temp flat black header paint. That's the best fix I could come up with. The black painted area is not really noticeable from the outside except when I have the silver sun shield over the dash. From the inside the painted black square is obvious, but not intrusive since it is so low in the line of vision.

I wouldn't use it with the acoustic package window coating but if you really need to clean the inside or outside of your windshield you can use Glass Stovetop Cleaner on a microfiber rag. It is better than windex or other spray on products for occasional use, particularly to remove condensed vinyl vapors on the inside of the windshield.
