Make sure to have the correct lug bolts with aftermarket wheels.

Just a reminder...I don't know about other models, but my 2022 GLE53 with the stock 21" wheels has lug bolts that are different from any that I have had on my previous MBs. These are somewhat unique and perhaps difficult to find in the correct length and with the correct head type (spherical vs. conical).

As has been posted in other threads, the bolts are M15 x 1.25 vs M14 x 1.5 that are more common. As with most MB wheels and bolts, the wheel has a spherical seat and the bolt has a spherical (rather than conical) head. Many aftermarket wheels like TSW, Petrol, etc., have conical seats so that the stock M15 x 1.25 bolts will not work even if they are the correct length. Using the wrong type of bolt can result in a loose wheel or destroy the wheel or worse.

To check if your wheels have spherical or conical lug bolt seats, paint a thin coat of Liquid Paper or Sharpie on the bolt seat and thread it into the wheel. If the wheel seat is conical, only a thin stripe of the paint will be removed. It it is conical, most of the paint will be rubbed off.

Definitely worth checking.
Thanks for the reminder.

Also true of the spare, which uses shorter bolts than the OE Alloys.

Great info. Thank you! Do you know the length of the OEM bolts and how much sticks out the other end? I'm considering 10mm spacers and I don't know the bolt length or if I can find a longer one.

I don't have access to my GLE right now but as I recall they are quite long -- threaded portion 2 inches. As you have asked, more important is the length that sticks out the rear of the wheel into the hub which you can measure yourself if you pull off a wheel. You'll want that length within a couple of mm for an aftermarket wheel -- too little is not strong enough, too long may rub or bind up within the hub. The total length of aftermarket bolts will depend on the thickness of the wheel hub plus the amount extending out the back of the wheel.

After installing any aftermarket wheels and bolts, first turn the installed wheel by hand or move the car very slowly to make sure nothing binds up within the hub. Also check that nothing is rubbing, particularly behind the top of tire against the strut. I'd look for a wheel that has a bulky, strong hub similar to the stock wheels.

Thank you. I ordered aftermarket 21s for a witner setup and I'm waiting for Gorilla to produce bolts in m15x1.25 which I'm told they do but haven't updated their website.

But I'm hoping to run 10mm spacers for my OEM wheels so when I switch to my winter setup soon I'll give it a measure and hope there's at least 13 mm protruding

Also, make sure that Gorilla makes the correct seat (spherical vs. conical) to match the wheels -- probably conical.

Great! Let us know the specifics -- wheel type, source, contact info for the source and Gorilla. I may want to order. And of course, photos.

Part Number for the Black lugs is GOR17151BC. Part Number for chrome lugs is GOR17151.

Each is 15x1.25 and 28mm in length with a CONICAL seat. They currently do not have any locks available.

I ordered some and every vendor I've seen says it's a special order and ETA is 25 business days.
