16 GLE63s Black Boost CAI
How it started
Removed engine cover
Removed MAP sensor
Sensor unplugged passenger side
Sensor unplugged driver side
Factory air boxes out
Use extension provided here
Put charge pipe and filter together
I did this one backwards and had to remove to put filter on
Driver side sensor in air box
Sensor plugged in
With what you see; it’s straight forward.
I’ll be removing assembling in its entirety (after painting) then installing. There are some bolts for the top half engine cover which will be impossible to reach when on the engine.
I wanted to get the boxes on as I had road trip and wanted to test the mpg (320 miles @ 72mph = 20mpg)
I am not tuned; stock ecu map

bad news on mpg. Won’t change a thing…

I moved the PS MAP sensor to the air box and plugged the charge pipe with supplied part. Cleared the code with iCarsoft MBII (code doesn’t come back to anything). No CEL. Did a 0-60 pull and a 60-110 using the trusty butt Dyno. 0-60 felt stock, but I’m not tuned. 60-110 felt like having the air box spacers and racechip rs (I removed the racechip). 80-110 felt a lot stronger.
320 miles running 93 octane with 1 bottle of octane booster. I ran it non stop for 5 hours; no CEL.
Reached the city put it in sports mode and played with it. All good.
Just for kicks and giggles, I swapped the DS MAP sensor from the air box to the charge pipe. Ran a few minutes, then CEL.
An interesting thing I noticed with one MAP sensor in charge pipe readings for the IAT = 57°c. With both in the air boxes IAT = 62°c. I’ll be testing with both MAP sensors in the charge pipe and take some readings.
This has 2 rubber grommets

Your seat of the pants impressions from 80 to 110mph are where the aero seems to hit, and where I'd probably notice it the most. Good feedback.
Have you recorded some Pre and Post results with Track Pace or another data logger? It would be interesting to see graphics.

I left the cruise control on.
I’ll be taking it off to paint the black pieces and I’ll do a track run and get some data. Maybe a couple weeks
I got it because the prospect of making the air cooler was worth it, even if minimal. The power gain claims seem super high, but fairly consistent in that regard across manufacturers.

There’s more power in the higher rpm range, again I’m stock, it’s noticeable but it’s on the higher side of 3k rpm. Tune will more than likely bring it out sooner
As for sound, the intake is noticeable and has a slight blow-off valve sound when releasing the accelerator. Very noticeable when windows up and music off, sometimes drowned out by the exhaust.
I did get serial number 1002 (which I assume is the second one they made, starting at 1000) so that's cool haha.
Noticed a good bit of responsiveness and whistling/intake is much louder. Sounds like a storm is outside haha. Pretty cool in parking garages.
