Ride Quality 22 vs 21 inch wheel

Would love to hear from some GLE 63 owners (current model)....or anyone who has driven both with each wheel size....is there a noticeable difference in ride quality? Thx

We have both. My wife’s 350 with the 21s ride considerably nicer and plusher than my 53 with the 22s.
Can they handle spirited driving the same? Absolutely not, but for everyday driving the 21s have the advantage.

cheers

Thx for the feedback! Do you think the suspension is the difference between the 2 cars...or the wheel/tire combo? I would imagine the 350 has a "softer" suspension....I'm trying to figure out if, on a GLE63....does the wheel/tire really impact ride quality?

Again, thx for your input!

After getting use to driving on these rubber bands on my previous 580-2 which are literally an inch and a half of tire on the rim to the bottom of the road. My GLE 63 with the 22" rims is like driving on a cloud. So I guess it depends on what you are already used to driving on. I think the 22" rims are a good compromise of handling and comfort. If you'd like more comfort then go for 21" rims.

Suspension does play a part, but the wheel/tire combo plays a bigger role. Even with the air suspension on comfort mode, my 53 feels every bump on the road and that's strictly the wheels & tires.

Agreed.
But the picture changes with ARC, which reduces impacts and improves ride quality.
My AMG53 with 21s rides as well on lousy pavement and potholes, as my former 450 with E-ABC on 20s. Overall it's firmer, but less harsh.
But a 53 with ARC is definitely smoother than one with the 53 standard air. (Not to mention handling.)

I believe the GLE63 has ARC standard, so I'd bet that the sidewall difference would be less noticable.

If you're going to do some track work, 21s are just not enough tire for a 5,200 lb car.

Tire selections are very limited with 22s. And with a wear rating of 220 on the UHP 22s, 15,000 miles would be a gift. You'll be buying tires.
I expect my 21 Conti's, with wear rating of 480, to last maybe 25,000.

If you want to make your wheel openings to look more full with 21s, omit the running boards and get a dark car with Night Package. Just my personal thoughts.

Our 21 450 with 20" michelins rides much quieter and softer (and lasted over 30k miles) than our 21 63 with 22's but the 22's are quite smooth. Just not as soft or quiet as the 20's the 450 has. We run the 22's at 40psi front and 38 rear and according to the different pressure stickers could be ran lower per the speed limits (no racing)
