24 GLE 53 Rims: 21's vs 22's

Good afternoon all,

I am currently looking into the GLE 53 AMG SUV for my next car. I am having difficulty choosing between the 21inch rims (21-inch AMG twin 5 -Spoke) VS. the 22inch option (either multispoke or AMG forged cross-spoke,matte black). I assume the 21's are slightly softer but curious if anyone has any first experience they can share. Thanks!

22-in tires that are OE on the 53 are all UHP, ultra high performance. There is a caution against using them in temperatures below about 40°F. The tread can crack and fail.

If you need All Season or Snow tires, 21 in would be a better choice for you.

Thank you very much, this is helpful info!

I ordered a 2025 AMG GLE 53 and I went with the 21 inch All season tires. Just keep in mind you need to specify that you want the all season tires cause you can also get high performance tires with the 21 inch rims as well. The 21 inch with the night package and black accented rims was my preference.

How do you like the drive with those 21’s? I like the way they look with the black accents.

Do any of the 22’s come with the option for all season tires?

The truck build date is apx 8/30 but I test drove trucks with the 21 inch rims and they ride well. There is no option from factory to get all seasons with the 22 inch rims. I actually prefer the 21s though. Best suggestion is test drive the truck and take a look at all the options at the dealership.

No all season option for 22s and the replacement tires are the most expensive with the least amount of options. There's a winter Pirelli Scorpion 22" though and I thought they were adequate to good. They handled the snow /ice very well even at 3mm. Surprisingly, the handle and wear is pretty good even in the summer. I've been running these winters all summer in SoCal (70-80F) because they were 3mm at the end of the season so I wanted to squeeze the last life out of them. I'll be putting my summer tires on pretty soon though because the Pirelli 22" winters are finally reaching end of life.

I bought a spare set of new 20" AMG wheels (new takeoffs from a local owner for $1100) with Alpina 5 tires (from MBUSA buy 3 get 4th for a dollar deal) for next season. I don't think 20" works with the bigger red brakes though.

There are two all-season options for the '22s in stock sizing; i.e. 285/40/22 and 325/35/22; a Pirelli Scorpion Zero A/S and the Nitto NT420V. You can find both on the Discount Tire's website.

The Pirelli price is not for the faint of heart (and is currently backordered). The NItto has rumors of excessive road noise. Feels like a "lesser of two evils" decision and I'm on the 90 day bubble in having to make a decision.

What is clear, the 21" rims have infinitely more options.
Good luck!

That's right I forgot Pirelli has an AS. Thanks for correcting me. The Nittos might not be an option anymore. I don't see them on TireRack.

Check out Discount Tire - the Nittos are in-stock and available. It is odd, now that Discount Tire acquired Tire Rack, that the Nittos are not on TR. Go figure...

That's also true of Nokian tires. One of my favorite brands.
