Trying to replace the front wheel bearing assemblies on the GLE 350.I got all surrounding hardware removed including the 4 eTorx bolts that hold the hub assembly in the knuckle but I can't get the hub out.
I hammered some on it but didn't make any progress. This is not 4matic. I thought it would just slip right out just like my chevy pickup truck that was very easy to remove.
Anyone have experience with this? it seems the hub pressed into the knuckle.
Im not familiar with the W166 though looking at the diagrams the bearing/hub assembly look very similar to a W204 rear assembly. just the 4 bolts and the bearing comes off with the hub. I worked on mine and it was stuck on pretty good. I had the entire wheel carrier on a bench out of the car and gave it a few wacks.
I came across the instructions for the 4 matic and even that just shows pulling out the cv axle to be able to unscrew the 4 bolts, then says to remove. No additional steps.
Are you hitting the hub out/off? I'd be hammering it off where the brake caliper brackets were since theres no dust shield in the way there.
I found a video with a hub like yours. Seems he just unbolts it, doesnt show actually getting it off but theres no mention of special procedures. I think its just stuck on really good, just like how sometimes its difficult to get the wheel off its rusted to the hub.
