My New GLK

My New GLK-img_0239.jpg My New GLK-img_0238.jpg

Just picked it up today.
Drove home in snowstorm.
Stopped to get rolls for dinner.
Took picture in parking lot at Sobey's.
More photos in garage. Even has square tailpipes.

Wow, great looking car. Wish we had the twin spoke wheels as part of USA exterior package.

Thanks for pics. Definitely going Black.

It looks great, especially with those 20" wheels.

Great car!

Very well. Took it to mall parking lot. Tried to do donuts.
ESP and 4Matic kept making me go straight.
Wiper blades iced up some (front and rear) and Parktronic sensors on rear were affected by snow-did not detect cement wall at 2 feet.

Looks great. Did you get a Bi-Xenon Headlamps Package? If so, did it came with LED Tailamps like the Lighting Package from US?

Also, since you got the 20 inch wheels, I assume you got the Sport Package, I through it comes with Aluminum roof rails.

Congrats! I am anxious to hear how you like it as you put some miles on it.

I am just having a hard time justifying the expense at the moment.

The first and only GLK with Sport Package and the Bi-Zenons Headlamp package that I have seen here in Vancouver did NOT have LED tail lamps; it had the conventional yellow turn signal lamps (at least they aren't red !!).

As far as the "Sport Package" is concerned, for the time being it can be ordered with standard black rails or bright aluminum rails together with the 20" wheels. This situation might only apply to Canadian orders (??).

Thanks for the info DerekACS, I remember reading another thread that you have placed an order for February production. Looking forward to hear more information about your GLK.

Has Bi-Xenon Headlamps but standard 12V tail lamp bulbs (Canada).
Sport package with 20" wheels but apparently some problem with supplier in Germany so not shipping with aluminum roof rails until some time in the future.
(as explained to me by dealer)

Historic bad market and all prudent companies looking to reduce inventory backlog combined with a real success product is very unfortunate.

If GLK is as successful as it appears to be under this very dark time, it is a very, very big hit.

It seemed so obvious to me that options and delivery are restricted by supplier ability or willingness to deliver.

Can't blame them.

There are a number of differences between the Canadian and American versions of the GLK, varying standard equipment and option packages. Since the Canadian version has heated seats & mirrors as standard equipment, the penny pinchers @ MBC might have elected to delete the LED rear turn signals from the Bi-Zenon package or, as you say, it might just be a supply issue.

As far as the roof rails are concerned, I also was told about the supply problem for bright rails, but according to my dealer, you can presently choose black or bright rails with the "Sport Package".

Suucks it looks as if the 20" twin spoke wheels arent available here in the states i luved those wheels on the promo pics of the GLK and now its not available ...talk about a teeasseeeee !!! I still dont understand these manufacturers placing the HID lights as an option or in a package since these really should be a standard feature at this price range ??????

Audi
I think it will be a big hit! I was at a Mercedes showroom in Toronto and I couldn't even test drive it because there were so many people test driving it and putting down orders.

The 20' wheels are available on the U.S. spec GLK, they are buried under the accessory page for a mere $3,310!

By the way..doesn't this GLK look bad *** in the snow! Come on Benz..here is a great marketing photo op.

6 GB hard drive?

Have been testing the Harman/Kardon stereo/DVD system in the GLK.

8 sound sources available: AM/FM, Sirius satellite radio, 6 CD changer, Music register(hard drive), PCMCIA slot plus 3 media interface cables-iPod, USB and stereo mini plug.

Points of interest: Recording to hard drive is only available from CD's inserted
in changer. REC option shows up in menu. Takes 12-13 minutes to record CD, each CD uses 0.1 GB. Available memory is shown as 6 GB-see photo. My New GLK-img_0244.jpg

Will also record from CD-R with files in .cda format. MP3 CD's will play, but can't record files to hard drive. Data DVD's(ie drag and drop .mp3 files onto 4.7 GB DVD-R) are not recognized and will not play or record to hard drive.

Commercial DVD movies and movies recorded on DVD-R will play on NAV screen, but DVD-RAM disc not recognized.

iPod interface in glovebox worked for iPod Classic(120 GB)(30GB), Nano(4GB), with menus on NAV screen controlled by knob on center console. Steering wheel controls scrolling songs with up and down arrows. Video files on iPod did not appear on menu so could not be played. Iphone 3G told me to switch to airplane mode to conserve power-worked like regular iPod but didn't appear to be charging.

USB interface tested with 1 GB flashdrive. MP3 files played, menus displayed but would not play copy protected files(ie purchases from iTunes).

Have not checked miniplug interface or PCMCIA slot as yet. PCMCIA cards hard to locate.

AM/FM and Sirius seemed to be fine.

Sound quality is excellent, 12 speakers surround sound, really showed up with supplied demo disc in DV Audio format and Beatles "Love" DV-Audio disc.

Probably but USB with flash drive seems to have same function, lower cost.

Does the system support CD-Text? And I suppose one can name the CD titles after recording from CD to hard drive?

The system uses the Gracenote database, and there are also manual editing capabilities which I haven`t explored as yet.
