When's the US getting the CDI engine?
It seems like the 3.5L V6 out of the ML is a little overkill in such a small SUV, when the competition has 2.0T engines (Tiguan), and 3.0si (X3). This would be a great engine for the CDI, and if they had a CDI model, it would be a great car.
Anyways, is MB supposed to be releasing the CDI in the US or not?
The engine will be a high-tech 2.2 liter four cylinder. Power will be about 150 kW (200 hp), and torque will be about 500 N-m (370 lb-ft). Timing chain and gears will be at the rear of the engine. Injection will common-rail with piezo-electric injectors. It will have two-stage turbocharging.
Performance will be breathtaking for such a small Diesel. European versions will be either 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission. I am hoping the 6-speed manual also comes to the US.
Thank you for recent email. Please note we anticipate that the
Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class will launch in January 2009 as a model year 2010 vehicle.
Unfortunately, a diesel engine will not be offered in Canada at
the time of launch. The current diesel engine offered in Europe does meet
the certification requirements in Canada, however the factory is working
hard to ensure the diesel engine will be offered in the future, possibly
model year 2011.

Therefore I decided to purchase a GLK 350 now instead of waiting for the 320 or 220 CDI.
The 4 cylinder diesel is at least one year away.
This engine is built in three versions; it is expected that the NA 4 cylinder diesel will be the mid-range version and it will offer 168 hp. The higher performance version with approx 201 hp in a much lighter GLK would offer better performance than the ML 320 Bluetec, so this engine will therefore not likely be offered to the NA market. MB does not want a GLK diesel to cannibalize its ML diesel sales. There is also the issue of CAFE (corporate average fuel economy); a four cylinder mid-range diesel offered in both GLK and C Class will increase MB's CAFE for the US market.
BlueTec Hybrid model of the GLK over to North America.

I think you ment to say at least TWO years away. Since its 09 now and the GLK is already a 2010 MY currently. So a CDi GLK wont be here until at least 2011, if it makes it here then.

I asked several different guys if there was going to be a CDI and every one of them said probably not and that a hybrid was more likely.
Perhaps they wanted to keep us sales guys in the dark so we'd sell the 350s, but that's what I was told (and now I'm "certified" in the GLK!).

I'm guessing 3Q 2010 availability in North America, for both the C-Class and GLK.
(In the meantime, Audi has committed to the 4 cyl diesel in the A3, early in calendar year 2010, model year TBD.)
Hybrid is probably coming, but even further out - they have much more work to do there.

Monkey Wrench into the Diesel GLK [and/or] Diesel/Electric Hybrid GLK.
" Gefickt Wieder durch R.E.M.F.s in New Jersey! "
Does anyone have any more rumours about when a diesel version might be available in Canada. It would be a shame if they introduce it with the 220 when the new 250 Bluetec is so advanced.
[extra nice RPM to Speed figures!]
[Yeah, Isn't the 220 engine the one They've had Soooooooooo Much trouble with in the E.U. ?]
I'm afraid pictures or videos of you enjoying yours are as close as we in
North America will ever come to Ownership.

Waiting.
How about 20 mpg in town and > 28 mpg on the highway. Plus much greater towing ability and only slightly less performance if we're talking about the 250 CDI engine?

I doubt very seriously if the GLK structure, suspension, brakes, etc. would be changed at all for a small diesel. No increase in towing capacity. Towing ability? Define please.
Next good reasons?

ps: Has anyone seen the break even numbers for the VW Jetta diesels? It is in double digit YEARS.

Ability: Maximum torque of 250 CDI Blue/EFFICIENCY is 369 lb/ft / 1,600-1,800 rpm, vs. 350's 258 lb/ft / 2,400-5,000 rpm.

MB figures with regard to milage: 250 CDI Blue/EFFICIENCY 32/40 MPG (city/"außerorts") vs. 16/28 MPG for the 350, both 4MATIC.
