GLK & iPhone 3G compatibility

GLK & iPhone 3G compatibility
I'm waiting for the delivery of my new GLK next week but have been reading that the iPod connection kit is not fully compatible with the iPhone 3G.
It does not charge the iPhone and does not upload contacts to the Bluetooth. Frankly what is the point.
This may sound like a trivial issue but I'm a gadget freak and this is a deal breaker for me. I'm moving from my BMW X5 to a MB GLK after 15 years of only BMW. If they can't get the simple iPhone compatibility right, then it leads me to believe that there are a lot of other issues with the electronics.
Any thoughts ??

That is a pain...I am in the same mess...I was told my GLK will be available for delivery at the dealership on March 18. I ordered the iPod kit. Interestingly, I asked to test out my iPhone 3G on a GLK at the dealer...they did not have one to show me/test.
I think the iPod/iPhone integration kit is ~$600 CAD (canadian dollars) and is installed at the dealership...maybe I can put a halt on it prior to installation.
I will call the dealer next week to see about compatibility.
Thanks

Charging is also apple, not MB. It has to do with the apple changing the position of the charging pin in the newer products where as most of their ipods still would charge with the ipod intergration. See $25 addon listed above that should fix this charging prob

There maybe a solution...MB has a cradle for the iPhone 3G which allows...
iPhone use, iPod use, bluetooth, recharging, sending contact lists to the GLK's MMI.

I think webada has a good idea...
From what I read about the Mercedes iPod interface kit in the GLK is that it does allow telephone function and iPod function from the iPhone 3G.
Problems...
- Purchase a scosche passport to switch the power pin around with the MB iPod interface kit to allow the iPhone 3G to charge.
- Wait for the iPhone 3G software update (may never come) to allow contact sharing/sending...current os is 2.2...ha, ha webada you had me going os 3.0
I am still waiting to hear about the cradle part availability.

something is wrong with your setup...
If your Iphone does not charge while the ignition is on or the car is running then either your phone or your cradle is bad. The phone will stop getting power at about 10 minutes after you remove the key.
Bryan
The latest cradle does everything but text messages. May be different for GLK, go to your dealer and ask for 20% discount.

I am getting my GLK350 Monday. It has iPod/Media interface. I have new iPhone 3GS. Since these posts were a few months back, will my iPhone now work in the GLK? Thanks.

Hey I got th MMI interface, it plays the songs, but it doesn't charge the phone since they haven't addressed the pin charge. Hopefully that will be addressed in the near future.

FYI... OS 3.0 has been out for months now....
Nope, still no Bluetooth contact information exchange. Shame on Apple! My old POS RAZR did it just fine. I had to SIM swap to upload my contacts to the car. SHAME!!
It is not Mercedes' fault here. It's Apple are their device-crippling policy!

I agree that for a car manufacturer to work with Apple might be more effort than for them to work with other phones (like the RAZR), but SHAME ON MERCEDES for not making that effort. The iPhone has been out for years and it has the fastest growing market share of all smart phones. Shame on Mercedes for not making the effort to integrate a 2010 model with the iPhone.

I have both my BB Bold & my iPhone 3Gs paired with my GLK350 & they both work. I use my BB more for calls as it has the more extensive phone book. I am 99% sure that my iPhone had contacts downloaded as well but will check today.

This website should answer all your questions. The contact list is not compatable with the iPhone and the GLK bluetooth software,

I think what's connected to GLK last becomes default device if both are connected. Also you can switch between them while they both are connected: simply go to "phone" on Command screen and you should see list of phones that you connected and you can switch between them.

But it doesn't sync the address book of your iPhone with the GLK, right? Is there an entry in your iPhone that isn't in your BB? That entry probably doesn't show up in your car's address book. And if you change a phone number in your iPhone, it doesn't change in the car's address book, right? I'm asking because I've had no luck with the iPhone and the GLK. I can make and receive calls, but it only displays the phone number (not the name) of the caller.
