GLK Navigation Usage

The 7" screen is a great size and I have mentioned on here that it is a bit too bright at night on another tread.

In the Route direction mode, the female voice is LOUD, I have yet to see any way to control this

The map does a really neat trick, it splits up the screen into two parts, so the usual overhead view of your location on the map is displayed on the left. The right hand screen show you a close up view of lane position and changes with the route in a blue colour. This is complemented by a the same colour blue bar on the far right that shows you distance in meters as well as the blue bar shrinking as the distance to the next intersection changes, if you are ever unsure of how far away the turn is just take a quick peek at the colour bar or text readout.

The search for POI is very good and is easy to navigate using the wheel. I was in Brampton yesterday and it got me to two different locations and the integration with the cell phone allowed me to dial the resturant I was heading to. The whole experience was very impressive to both my passengers and myself.

Volume

Regarding the volume of the voice. To the best of my knowledge, It can only be adjusted as the NAV is talking...when she talks adjust volume +/- to desired level.

I also see you can activate/de-activate the audio fade during navigation information.

Ok thanks, now I feel a bit dumb, I just assumed it was a menu thing. I did lower her voice with the volume control, even with the radio volumed lowered automatically it came back to where it was before Ms. Navigator spoke.

Also, you can adjust brightness. I don't remember how, but I found it in a minute when I was playing with the nav at the dealership. I think there are also night and day modes.

Yes the default is Automatic, I have set it manually to nightime and it was the same. Dont get me wrong its not like its distractingly bright, but I would have liked to been able to adjust it like I can the instrument lights.

Ok I had a good friend in the car and asked him if he thought the GPS was a bit bright, then he asked me about the controls and I showed him how to get to the System settings and he then went to the display and he found an acutal "Brightness" setting its a gradient scale that runs top to bottom and we set it to a lower setting now its PERFECT. I did feel a bit dumb after but what are friends for?
