What exactly is Keyless GO?

This is my first time buying a Mercedes Benz, and want to ask what is the Keyless GO? What are the functions of it? Is it worth the wait till June production? How is it different then the regular remote you are given?

Thanks!

If it is like my MINI, then you don't ever have to physically use your key or your remote. Depending on vehicle, you could approach your vehicle, enter, push a start button, and then drive away. On my MINI, I have to push a small rubber button on my door handle to unlock the door. I only insert my key fob just to maintain its battery every now and then.

As I have posted before, I like the fact you don't have to maintain turning the key to start our GLK. You just turn it and let go and it will turn over until it starts. It is almost like a start button.

Defienetely worth it, on the mercedes all you have to do is lightly pass your finger over any of the door handles and it will lock and unlock the car, or simply just grab the handles or trunk lever and it will unlock and open, your key literally will never have to leave your pockets. Get in and push the start/stop button. Whats really neat is if you are approaching your vehicle with both hads carrying grocery bags and you have a wife or partner or friend walking with you, as long as you are 3 feet or closer, they can also reach over and pull on the handle of the car and it will unlock.

Personally, I wouldn't consider Keyless Go as "essential". Many more options you could put this money towards...

I don't get the point of it either. You still need hands to pull the door handle and push the button, so what's the point of not having to use the remote.

so you don't have to fumble for the key or take the key out ever.

its nice for woman since keys can be buried inside their bags and they change bags often so it might not always be in the same place.

What options might that be? P1 is essential. after that, everything else is pretty much on par in terms of "better" options.

If you never had it before, then it doesn't really matter. In fact, MB's smartkey is already pretty damn good, imho the best out as far as auto keys go. But, once you have keyless go, its hard to go back....

I agree with you too.... Not sure if it's worth $975 (Canadian price) just to avoid the step of clicking the remote. Still need a hand to open the door. But it is a "nice to have", but prefer a rear camera or even parktronic.

pretty much no, too much wires are missing and parts needs to be changed. unless you are will to spend thousands of dollars, most MB tech will tell you don't do it... its worst than getting retrofitting OEM xenon kit (price wise)

Here is the closest thing to it if you really want it and didn't get it.

I took as you referring to button on the handle and I was clarifying that we were talking about pushing button to start the car.

Ah right, my bad.

Anyhow, all these options are suited to one's lifestyle. To some, rear entertainment is a must because they have kids, HK system because they are audiophile, or even the crappy Comand Navi because they hate hanging a Garmin.

KG is one of the best option for convenience. Like I said before, once you have it, its hard to go back to regular keys. I'm sure those who have them now or on their previous cars can back up that claim.

unless you are willing to take a chance and wait for June production, its pointless for us folks in the US

Well said, it all depends on what you like. Personally my wife really likes it on her G35X, and one of the reason we added it in our GLK. My brother in law enjoys it as well, makes it much easier with the baby.

I believe KG is worth the extra money, just not the extra time to wait for it.

For all of you saying Keyless Go is not worth it, you absolutely cannot say that until you have experienced it. Once you have it, you'll NEED it on your next car. I can't imagine living without it. It's my favorite options, apart from ABC.
