I installed them today, they look really good and are fairly idiot proof. It's difficult to align them off level too which is one thing I was worrying about.
They don't align to the spoiler "exactly". There's maybe 1/8" clearance on the ends and you have to push to get them them to stick. Maybe that's by design so you can line them up before committing. It does mean the sticky tape is under a little stress once mounted though. So far, so good.

I agree with 'less is more', and for white or silver body color, I won't go for the chrome surroundings. But for black color, the body paint is blended with black grille and basically you can't see any detail under the emblem. The chrome surround is a good way to highlight the front details of the car. Same, its my personal options.

First rainstorm. One of the outside edges of the surrounds came unstuck. I pushed it back and so far it's stuck but I think it's going to need something more permanant than the double sided sticky tape.

I had mine high pressure rinsed over the weekend, and I did not notice any problem. I can say when I installed the surrounds I applied pressure for about two minutes to ensure they were secured.

Andy, did you follow the instruction? The sticky tape need to be in temperature > 20c or 68f for more than 24 hours, after applied. I have the surroundings, but still waiting as its too cold her to put it on.

This is Houston, it's been 80 - 90 F since April. It finally came unstuck enough that it wouldn't stick anymore. I pulled the one side off and cleaned all the tape off. Will try again with some other double sided sticky tape and maybe some plastic welding adhesive, I haven't done all the research yet.

I'm still not convinced I didn't put it on wrong. I know, there's very little room for error, but it may be that in my attempt to make sure it was perfectly horizontal I actually stuck it on wrong. When I applied it, the surround didn't actually fit exactly flush with the spoiler and required a little pressure to fit.
Now it's off I have tried to re-position it and let it sit in it's natural position and it may be a better fit. At least nothing broke or scratched and it just needs more sticky tape. I get a do-over. The other side is still stuck fine.

Andy, I tried to fit it without removing the red tape paper. It looks like the surrounding touches the light glass before the 2 ends (with sticky tape) touch the spoiler. You need to push it like 1/4 of inch to attach. This will give the stick tape a constant stress, which may be the reason why yours came off. Let me know what you find. I will be very disappointed if MB didn't get it right.
