COMAND System

Hello,

New member here, who is about to purchase a Black on Black GLK.
The vehicle we're getting comes with the stand alone COMAND option instead of the Multi-media package. I can't seem to get the correct information, but I'm wondering 1)How big is the HDD on the stand alone COMAND unit? and 2) does it come with PCMCIA slot? Or is that only for the Multi-media package?

I appreciate your input since we're still hammering out the details before delivery.

cheers.

I thought that you needed the MM package for both the HDD and the PCMCIA slot, for the US anyway

According to the dealer, there is a stand-alone COMAND option. But when I check online for the features, I either get info saying it has a 6GB HDD plus a PCMCIA slot or another site says 40GB HDD plus w/o PCMCIA slot.
And the dealer does not seem to know the exact details.

From MBUSA: This stand alone option contains a 7" high resolution color display with hard-drive navigation, enhanced voice control for radio, telephone, navigation, 6-disc CD/DVD player, 6 GB hard-drive with Music Register, and Gracenote Media Database.

From Edmunds.com: 512 COMAND With Hard Drive Navigation
Includes a 40GB hard drive and GPS with voice instructions.

From Vehix: Includes 7-inch color display, Gracenote media database, voice control for audio, telephone and navigation, 6-disc DVD/CD changer, PCMCIA card slot and 6GB hard-drive with Music Register for download of MP3 files.

I guess I should trust MBUSA, but who knows. Just kind of frustrating that the dealer can't accurately tell me.

Oh well.

In Canada, the Logic7 is separate from the Command unit. So no MM package. Ours include 4GB storage on the command system.

Welcome to the forum.

Navi was added as stand alone option later on.

I think HDD would be the same in either case. Its 40 gig, but only 6 can be used for music, the rest is used for navi.

not sure about PCMIA

Why aren't you getting MM package?

Regarding Command System and Navigation, I ordered the MM Pack and would love to read up on the system, while waiting for my GLK to arrive in Port of LA, but the online owners manual does not seem to have the tutorial or features and operating instructions.

Anyone know of a good online source to learn GLK Nav System? Will system accept voice input street name and numbers?

Weird, I got the brochure right in front of me that I got yesterday and it says 4. Same with my car (W204) has 4. Maybe the option was changed in the past week or so?

edited: even mb.ca says 4 gigs:

# COMAND APS with hard drive-based navigation
# 6-disk DVD changer
# PCMCIA interface for MP3 playback from memory cards
# 4GB MP3 storage
# LINGUATRONIC voice control

Yes it will, pretty cool.

There was a link to owners manual on the forum somewhere, or just trying looking on MB site, they have pdf version. But honestly it's really easy to figure it out.

I just didn't feel the MM package was worth the extra cost. Plus the the dealer is basically giving me invoice for the truck. It has the stand-alone sunroof option plus command. Deal is very good IMO.

So I guess I'm not sure what to expect with the Comand Option. I hope it has the PCMCIA slot so I can avoid having the ipod cable installed.

Thanks for the input guys.

Not sure how good regular sound system is, but read that HK is well worth it.
Invoice price is what you should be getting it for, it's been selling for incovice for a few months now. Keep in mind that PCMIA might not let you transfer music from the card. I remember members here were only able to play music from the card but not trasfer it on to HDD.

Memeber on C class figured out a way, but it didn't work on GLK.

Just picked up the car yesterday and it's amazing! Love it.

As an FYI, the stand-alone Comand option does include the PCMCIA slot, HDD, voice command and the larger screen.
