My GLK only has 1800 miles on it and I added one quart of oil last week and it is almost down another quart after only one tank of gas. I refilled with Mobil 1 synthetic. I babied the car well through the 1,000 mile break in period. I had one instance at around 1200 miles where I used about half throttle to get through a 30 foot stretch of wet grass in a yard. Should I be worried?

My oil checking experience has me puzzled as well.
Park teh car for a few days without starting it. Go check the oil. Disptick is dry!! eeek!! Push stick back in and pull it out. Oil is on the stick, it's about 1/2 way mark (but the car isnt sitting level).
Drive car to store to buy some oil to top it up. Leave it in the lot for the time it takes to buy additional oil, check the oil - it's about the 2/3 full mark so doesn't need any (whew!).
Park the car overnight in our undergounrd parking spot which is nice and level. Before starting in the morning, check the oil, disptick comes out dry - no oil !! eeek!!
However, push it back in, pull it out, oil is at 2/3 full mark.
How the heck does the darn dipstick work? What could be more simple than a dipstick?
Puzzling me.

Later, when I got through the Owner's Manual, I read what NYCGLK referenced above. And that it requires two quarts of oil to go from the min to max marks, 8.5 quarts per oil change.

I had the "check oil level on net refueling" messager around 9,000km. After the message came up the 2nd time, I checked, it looked like it needed. 1 Litre of Mobil 1 synt and it has not given me that message again.
I had the same thing .. I was down on oil.. went to the dealer and they topped me up.. standard for new engines to burn a little oil... mine has been fine ever since.. no worries..
just don't keep adding oil. To get accurate reading from glk dipstick you have to wait 4 hours after you run the engine. Oil dipstick wont show anything for the first pull and that's how it designed. Pull the dipstick and wait a minute then reinsert to get accurate reading. This engine produces vacuum when runs so dipstick hole's oil get sucks in. Don't ruin engine by keep adding oil. Just read the manual please
