Don't UBS hard drives have external power adapters? At least the ones I think of do.
I just bought 16GB SD card, not sure why you would need more than 8 even. I have 8GB card currently that I took from my camera and fit over 1000 songs on it, at 3 min a song that aboud 50 hours of music.

There are hdd that are powered by USB only. For example:

Capacity ranges from 250 Gb to 1 Tb. 8 Gb could be large, but I want to be able to carry as much music as I can so I can listen to any songs I have in my collection without constantly copying files from PC.
