GLK starts in 1st always?
So as many of you familiar with C class know that it gets moving in 2nd gear when tranny is in C. I thought GLK is the same way but that might not be the case.
When driving in manual mode (tried in C and S) and trying to start in 2nd gear (D2), you can see tach goes up and then drops a bit and then goes up again. When starting in 1st it just goes up till you shift. So it seems pretty clear that in manual mode it always starts in 1st gear. I think it makes sense for GLK to use 1st gear as it's a heavier car and using first gear puts less wear on tranny and engine.
Furthermore, I use more fuel in C than in S as I have to floor it harder and more often to make tranny downshift.
What do you people think about GLK's tranny?

Any chance you were running this test first thing in the morning while the catalytic converter was still warming up? The shift points are altered by the software during that period to get the engine up to operating temperature quicker.

I did this after about 10 minutes of driving so the engine was fully warmed up, I'd guess so was the converter.
I guess I'll have to do the experiment in auto mode. It's just tough to judge what gear you are in since they are pretty short and I normally don't drive in manual mode so I don't really know what rpms correspond to what speed in each gear yet.

wanted to see if there is any improvement in fuel economy in C. I started driving in S from day 1. (I personally think if there is any difference, S is better for engine and tranny break-in as long as you don't abuse it, but that's my opinion)
