COMAND screen just went blank!
I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic and answered a call with bluetooth when the COMAND screen just went completely blank. Restarting the car did nothing but I do still have all the radio/video/nav functioning. I even removed the head unit to see if any wires had come loose, but hadn't. Has this happened to anyone here? The car only has 1.1k, hopefully it isnt a bad omen.

Quick Update: Just came back from the dealer. Final diagnosis is a faulty LCD screen, will be replaced tomorrow.
I hope mine is an isolated case but something to look out for.

Let's hope the new one holds up better. But if it startes happening to more than we see here, I wish they would replace ours (if it happens) with one with a better contrast ratio.

It has happened to me three times already and I only received the vehicle 3 days ago. Very painful indeed. I'll head to the dealer on Tuesday. Annoying for sure!!!!

my car's build date was 7/09 and i bought it on 8/7. They told me they had to take apart alot to reach the screen, but was completed within one day.

Yea if you get into production cycle right it's really quick. Also the main port is in Maryland on East coast so that saves a few days on shipping.

My command screen went blank on me when I started up this morning. There was nothing on the screen when I reversed ( I have back up camera) and nothing when I pressed the navi button. I just picked up car last wed. and it was a sept production.
Also, prior to this I noticed the hazard light in the middle of the top console would be lit up in red even though I had not turned it on. Otherwise everything seems to be fine. Just contacted my dealer. Will let you know what happens.

I went back to my car at noon and without doing anything the Comand screen came back on again. Don't know what happened in between except it rained a lot overnight when it was parked outside and had time to sit inside the past couple of hours.

Also if it happens again, stop the engine, get out of the car, close all doors, lock the car using the key remote, then open the car, get in, start engine.... each time the car goes through this cycle, it resets the system.... please let us know what happens. If you go to the dealer, ask them why it went off and then came on without reason.
Good luck

You lnow the fuse box is under the hood on the drivers side. It's also exposed to the elements (rain, snow, etc) so check to see if the cover is on tight...

This is a problem in the screen (HMI) program. Restarting the car does not help. The system has to be down long enough with all the doors closed to allow the system to reboot. I had a 2010 that did this bout twice a year. I never tried MBRedux's solution, but I do know that if you turn it off, remove the key, get out and close the doors, wait about 5 to 10 minutes, when you open the door the system will reboot and probably work fine. You need to wait long enough to have the capacitors in the system discharge so it will fresh boot. Just like the blue screen of death in Windows, sometimes you hope that Microsoft didn't program your car.
Put 115,000 on it and the system worked well except those two times a year. It even happened at the dealer once but they were baffled.

Check your fuses!
If you have this issue and you haven't had it fixed yet then check these two fuses in the engine compartment. You can replace fuse 26 and fuse 11. I replaced these two fuses on my Mercedes-Benz E220 SE CDI 7G-Triptronic. This could have cost me hundreds and hundreds of pounds if I took it to a mercedes dealership.
