2010 GLK350 4Matic / 2007 Infiniti G35S / 2005 Acura TL - All of them Loaded
Just picked up my GLK this week and am now on the hunt for snows and rims.
Issue I'm grappling with is that my GLK is a company car and fleet guys will only fork out for snows but no rims. They're willing to pay for 20" snows even though they would cost more than going with 17s or 18s plus rims.

Any suggestions?

One option would be to find 20's and then put them on the stock rims. That would mean I change shoes on the same rims every season. Or, I fork out for another set of rims (18s or 17s) and have them mount company paid snows on them.

What to do???

I would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks guys.

I thought I recall seeing 235/45-20 winters from TireRack but can't find them now. I recall they're US$400 each.

Personally, if someone else is paying for my 20 inch winter tires, I rather not have to pay for the 17 or 18 wheels.

I guess it also depends on where you are, if roads are very poor, you may be better off with higher side walls of the 17.

20 inch winter tires is absurd so is having two sets of tires with one set of rims. You have to to go to shop and replace tires and rebalnce wheels twice a year, while it takes 20 min to switch out set of rims/tires which you can do yourself.

Also 20 inch winter tire (if it exists) might not go well on the rim and will strech out after putting it on and off a couple of times.

Buy 17in or 18in winter wheels and tires... These are your only 2 practical options. Period.

Thanks for thoughts guys.

Found a fabulous set of 18" AMG Replicas with brushed aluminum spokes and tenorite spoke sides to match my tenorite GLK!!! But...The guy only had one set and someone had already put a down payment on them. :-(

Would have matched these up with 18" Toyo's OG2's. Not to be though.

Given that I don't know if I'm going to end up buying the vehicle in three years when I get another one, I trying to avoid buying rims. I would really hate to spend the money and then have my wife scuff them on the blue moon she takes the car. So, since the company fleet guys are saying they'll pick up the costs of the 20" tires and pay for the changeovers I've started the hunt for 20" snows. I've had my local guy bring in 235/45R20 Pirelli Winter Sottozerro Serie II. Don't know the price yet but I'm sure they're going to be outrageously expensive. Guess we'll see what the fleet guys say once I have a price.

I know it's outrageous to have 20" snows but given the situation why pay more now. If I end up buying it after 3 years, I'll probably buy rims at that time (as well as tires).

Thanks again guys.

You can most certainly do whatever you want but let me be the first to say that you are making a BIG MISTAKE! Not only will you wreck your OEM 20" wheels (which I hear cost an arm and a leg) but you will get next to no benefit from 20" winter tires when compared to what you would get going with 17s. Plus, they cost double the price!!!

If spending a few extra bucks is the big problem here, then do this...

DON"T BUY ANY WINTER TIRES OR RIMS AND STICK WITH WHAT YOU GOT!

If I were in your shoes, having the company paying for only the winter tires, I would also have them throw in the tire/wheel damage insurance.

I got them from a MB Canada dealer and they're a few hundred dollars, worth it in my opinion when running with the 20 inch.

This is a good time to ask your guys cover it as after all, they are the ones not willing to pay for the 17 inch wheels.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. Much appreciated.
Tire guy called to say the 20's came in. Will be seeing him on the weekend.

I know it's silly to have 20's for snow but a 2nd set is better than nothing. In the end, I may find myself with 2 sets of 20's and forking for 17's or 18's when a deal comes around. Waste not, want not.

It's been pretty dry here this year (GTA) and who know's with all the climate changes it might not snow for the rest of the season. I use mostly highways and if does snow, they're usually cleaned up quickly.

I'll let you guys know what I end up doing.

Congrats, I would have done the same if they're free.

Any idea how much your company paid?

I know summer is around the corner, but does anyone know if this is still valid for the 2010 Canadian GLK's? I ask as this thread is quite old and did not think it necessary to start another. I have looked in the manual, but can not seem to see anything. Would save a bomb not having to have these installed on a new set of rims.
Thanks all.

No issues whatsoever. Zero, Zilch, Nadda! In fact the SottoZero were the best snows I've ever owned and the most quiet! No issues with using the OEM 20's over the winter either. I would expect no less give their price of $670 Cdn each plus install and taxes!!!! Pirelli only sells these in sets of 4.

Now have the Pirelli Zero's back on for summer.

Loving the GLK.

2011 buy winter tires

I want to buy winter tires and pay a reasonable Canadian price. Whera should I go.
After doing my research (and read all the thread) looks like I should be getting the 235/60/R17 Right?
Where is a good place to get them (in Mississauga preferably)

Thanks,

Thanks,
235/60/17 is the correct tire size, and don't forget that you'll need rims to go with those 17" tires.

If you're adamant on purchasing locally, I doubt you will get it any cheaper than ~$2,300.

17" winter tires and rims from TireRack is ~$1,500 CAD shipped to your door.

Yes I was thinking about doing it this way.
I just got a quote for:

235/60/17 Blizzak WS70 + 17" MB replica alloy wheel package $1390/set

235/60/17 Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow + 17" MB replica alloy wheel package $1570/set

Not bad

Where did these rims come from? Really nice.

I'm thinking about a 17" package with all-terrain tires just for driving dirt roads and using the boat launch. Save the stockers for resale and hiway trips. All terrain tires are pretty cheap in that size and there's a pretty good collection. The Conti 19's are over $200 a piece.

Just bought a 18in kit for 1412$CAN !!!

Tires : YOKOHAMA - GEOLANDAR IT G072 - 235/55R18 at 205$ each. These tires are extremely well rated.

Wheels : 18in Petrol Rodeo at 148$ / wheel (you can buy MB replica for the same price)

Total : 1412$ + tx and free delivery (where I live).

I bought the kit at PMCtire.

The web site is www.pmctire.com. Choose "English" in the upper right corner if it's in french.

I received my tires/wheel very quickly and everything was perfect!

Strange I just noticed today that the standard 20 inch Pirellis Scorpions on Canadian models are snow rated.
